Verona, Italy based makeup artist Omar Turrini is the man behind our November cover. Here, he shares the story behind the shoot and his own work.
The Image
It’s a very classy, high fashion and strong image that focuses on timeless autumn makeup trends like bold glossy lipsticks, shimmery eyes and a glowy base routine. I was thinking about a 90s super model (as Maneskin songs played!) which I wanted to recreate with a new modern twist. And in this way was born this cover.
The Process
I started with a very clean moodboard, inspired by warm colors, shimmery textures and some new trends like the Foxy Eye look. After this moodboard, I built the makeup look using Inglot products that provided me very the high quality performance I needed for the shoot.
After that, in collaboration with my assistant, we prepared the hair look. After the creativity process, we perfected the image with Photoshop, of course. High end retouch is very important for an MUA’s work, because it enhances the original makeup idea, and doesn’t change too much the impression that was desired.
The complete look took 1 hour for makeup, 1 hour for the hair and 3 hours for the shoot. During the shoot, we had a great deal of funny moments backstage with our amazing model Sharon.
The Tools
I’ve user Canon EOS 5DS R camera with Sigma Art 85mm lens. The crop top was from Zara and the classy red manicure was made by me. This idea was perfect for this festive season.
The Inspiration
I wanted to create a strong woman who is very comfortable with herself. Red lipstick is a makeup tool that elevates the look and changes all in a single touch up. I was very inspired by this idea.
The look evokes a positive message for all. Makeup is the essential key that everyone can use to improve ourselves and our sensibility. The main focus for me is the inner beauty, without the idea of genders or skin colors.
That’s why, if I could give a title to the selected editorial, it would be ‘The power of yourself: a story of your inner beauty’.
The Model
The model in these images is Sharon Turotti, an incredibly talented model and actress who lives in the north part of Italy. I met her during a shoot in July 2020 and after this experience, I very much enjoy her
beauty in every single way. We play a lot together with makeup and hair looks. She is a true supermodel for me! Her attitude and her amazing energy are very useful in the backstage moments.
