As stated in the fashion description, “Her figure is statuesque, her waist is narrow and her head is carried high: the Gibson Girl, a key figure of the late 19th century, is a much a beauty ideal as a symbol of modernity and empowerment.”

With well-defined silhouettes, the collection was elegant and divine. There were sheath dresses, gowns with capes, long trail skirts and plunging backlines. “This ornamental and gracious allure is twisted with silk velvet layers, boleros, flounced midi skirts, boyish trousers, so as to dress a body in motion.” said the fashion show description said about the silhouettes.

The show started with Sara Sampaio in a white lace dress with fur trimmed sleeves and gradually moved on to sheer gowns, loose trousers, velvet skirts, tuxedos and ethereal gowns. There were thistles painted and embroidered in sequins, inspired by Art Nouveau. There were pearl fringes at the hemline of the dresses that created dynamism as the models walked the runway. In a few looks, gowns had ostrich feather hemlines giving a graceful look. Ruffles and pleated tulles were incorporated in a few looks.

The color palette included classic black and white, purple, ivory, pastels like blue and pink, beige and grey. Accessories included three dimensional appliqué headbands and embellished belts that gave a well-defined waistline. Shoes included strappy heels. The showstoppers dress was extravagant and magnificent. The sheer top white gown had a long trail attached from the waist. The tulle veil on the head was princess like and the tiara completed the look.

Overall, I felt the latest Zuhair Murad couture 2017 collection played within the designer’s comfort zone of intricate details, royal silhouettes and a mix of light pastels and rich color palette. But they’re beautiful designs, so can we really complain?
