It all seems better and more romantic when you’re at the rooftop, with light music playing in the background as the cool breeze gently kisses your face with your favorite dishes and you sip on some delicious cocktails and smell the barbeque. In Chennai, the summer heat may be constant but that doesn’t mean you have to miss out on the cool rooftop dining that the city has to offer. Most luxury hotels in the city have a rooftop restaurant but only a few have breath-taking view with outstanding ambience.

With the moon-lit sky, the gorgeous view for dinner from Kefi is mind blowing. Kefi has always been my go-to place for the gorgeous rooftop ambience with the poolside seating. The food is not that tasty from my own experience. Great place to sip on some cocktails or to hang out with your friends for hookah and chill on a breezy evening and enjoy the light music at the restaurant.

2. Azzuri Bay

Location: 13, 1st Crescent Road, Gandhinagar, Adyar, Chennai

Azzuri Bay is a well known and a popular place for people who are into rooftop restaurants. With a sea-side view, Azzuri Bay is ideal for those romantic candle light dinners. It’s a multi-cuisine restaurant. So if you wanna try different cuisines with an exotic view, you know where to go! Also don’t miss their Italian and Thai food.

3. Hola

Location: 6/1, 2nd Floor, 4th Main Road, Besant Nagar, Chennai, Chennai

With sea view all around, Hola is a great place to hang out in Besant Nagar. Especially people who love the view of the sea can have a great fun munching down on their Continental and Mexican food. My favorites include pastas and pizzas. Don’t forget to try their different types of chilled mojitos.

4. The Raintree – Up North

Location: The Raintree hotel, 636, Satya Murthy Nagar, Teynampet, Chennai

A cozy rooftop offering with a beautiful view of the city. As the name suggests, Up North, serves the best North Indian food with imported liquors. They serve the city’s most authentic Punjabi dishes. Try keema paratha, butter naan with dal fry, Shabnam ke moti and achari aloo.

5. The Raintree – Above Sea Level

Location: The Raintree Hotel,120, St. Marys Road, Alwarpet, Chennai

One of my favorite places amongst Chennai’s rooftop restaurants. A city view with poolside seating and different cuisines on the menu is what Above Sea Level offers. This is best place to have your favorite dishes, cocktails and drinks with the sunset view and your friends or family.

6. Ramada – Board Walk

Location: Gandhi Irwin Road, Egmore, Chennai

This is an elegant poolside restaurant that gives an amazing view of the city. This restaurant is beautifully decorated and designed with a big LED screen for the guests to watch cricket matches and entertainment stuff. The rooftop and the bar look like a boardwalk where the fashion shows happen, too. It’s known for their multi-cuisine menu and the bar is filled with both local and imported alcohol to choose from.

7. The Residency – The Crown

Location: 115, The Residency Towers, Sir Thyagaraya Road, T Nagar, Chennai

As the name suggests, The Residency Towers has royal vibes with magnificent towers in the dining space. It has been a popular place for years. You can enjoy the pool view, sip on the cocktails or drinks with mouth watering dishes. It’s the kind of place that’ll just make you forget that you are in Chennai. Great idea to plan a romantic date or a surprise party.

8. The Park – Aqua

Location: Tirumurthy Nagar, Nungambakkam, Chennai

Again this is my go-to option, especially when I wanna hang out with my friends. Aqua is designed with gazebos and a swimming pool where you can dip your feet and have a chill time! It’s best known for its hookah lounge and ambience with its laid back vibe. And a great happening place for parties. You can enjoy sipping their yummy cocktails or sparkling wines.

9. Terrace

Location: Shop No. 11, Khader Nawaz Khan Road, Nungambakkam
A rooftop resto cafe with a view of Nungambakkam the heart of the city. It’s a great place with a long list of cuisines to choose from. It has a relaxed cafe like vibe with light music. One of my favorite places, Terrace is a great place to chat with your friends or family with some lip-smacking dishes like vegetable momos, paneer tikka, manchow and lemon coriander soups.

10. Hablife Novella – Hablis

Location: No.19, Grand Southern Trunk Road, Guindy, Chennai

One of the most famous and best rooftop restaurants in Chennai. Hablife Novella is located in Guindy, not too far from the airport. It offers a view of the Guindy bridge traffic twinkling with the stars from the rooftop. You can also experience the sunset with a view of the swimming pool and the cool breeze. It’s the best place for dining or a drinking party with your best ones. Even I got referred by many of my friends to visit this place for their best European cuisine dishes.
