What Should I Wear to My Sister’s Wedding? (Menswear)

mohit malalkar asked

My sister’s wedding is coming up. Please suggest me what to wear to it & what are the best ideas for my sister marriage dress?

Shilpa Ahuja answered

Hi Mohit!

There are so many ideas in menswear for family weddings. You can go for sherwani, a heavy kurta, bundhgala, dhoti, tuxedo or suit. If you want something traditional, sherwanis are my personal favorites for immediate family weddings because they are statement outfits, show-stealers and also suit most body types! For western-wear, my recommendation is a tuxedo because it’s a classic wedding choice.

Sherwani:

The latest trend in sherwanis include shoulder and sleeve embroidery, unique duppatta colors and bold patterns. The trendiest colors include black and gold, wine, burgundy and pale gold. Navy and violet are also very popular. Here are some latest sherwanis we saw on the runways this year:

Bundhgala:

The second best option is bundhgala. You can choose something with bold botanical motifs, or with all-over embroidery. If you want something less heavy, you can even go for something in silk, but without any embroidery or handiwork.

Wear the sherwani and bundhgala with black or white chooridar or salwar. Add a pair of matching jootis or black patent leather loafers.

Classic/ Indo-Western Suits:

You can either go for a classic two or three-piece suit, or an Indo-western style. Velvet jackets, velvet lapels in contrasting colors, embroidered jackets are all very trendy, and were seen in Manish Malhotra’s latest Menswear collection 2015.

Tuxedo:

Black, white or navy tuxedos are also great options to wear to your brother or sister’s wedding! They look so classy and sophisticated. Pair a well-fitted one or two-button tuxedo jacket with a matching pair of trousers and black patent leather Oxford shoes. You can also add a pocket scarf and a bow-tie for a more formal look.

Kurta:

Heavy designer kurtas are a good option if you want something simple, easy-to-wear and traditional and not as heavy-duty as a sherwani. Go for an embroidered one and pair it with a matching silk duppatta and white chooridar. You can even pair your kurta with a dhoti for an experimental look.
