Amritha asked
I am a Malayalee girl of 20. It’s my brother’s wedding two months later and I am confused to what to wear. Please suggest what to wear to my brother’s wedding?
Shilpa Ahuja answered
Hi Amritha,
Thanks for writing in! If you want to wear something traditional, saree would, of course, be the perfect option. Or even a lehenga. But if you wanna try something with a contemporary experimental touch, go for a gown or a saree-gown.

Sarees
Sarees with embroidered blouses, and with contrast-colored pleats are super trendy right now. Choose something that suits your skin tone. Colors of precious stones never go wrong, like ruby red, sapphire blue, turquoise or amethyst purple. Black and wite are great ideas too. You can also drape it in a different style – like a lehenga or with a chooridar.

To create a statement, try different styles of blouses, like with bell sleeves or with a sheer poncho:

Saree-Gowns
Poofy gowns with attached pallus or with long trains are always a rich, elegant option for brother’s wedding. Here are some great options for saree gowns:

Indo-Western Outfits
Other than these options, Indo-western outfits are also a good idea. Long embroidered jackets over gowns have been seen a lot on the runways of Varun Bahl and Rohit Bal this year. So that’s a great option.
Or try heavy embroidered crop jacket or sheer ponchos over a lehenga or gown, like Manish Malhotra’s designs:

Lehengas
Heavily embroidered lehengas or lehenga-gowns are no-fail outfit ideas, and would be a perfect traditional option for a brother’s wedding. Try intricate floral embroidery in a pastel shade, or large traditional architectural motifs in a deep hue.

Accessories & Makeup for Your Brother’s Wedding
Choosing the right outfit is only half your job. Wear a good assortment of accessories with it, like a tiara, large kundan or gold necklace, with a matching clutch or a metallic belt. And last of all, don’t forget to choose the right makeup and hairstyle. For your brother’s wedding, the makeup should not be bridal-heavy, but yet it should be fit to wear to a party, so try a red or matching lip color, with smokey or metallic eyeshadow. For hairstyles, a high-bun, 50s rtro glam curls or embellished braids are great options.
