“I have a dream,” said Martin Luther King. And here’s mine: to travel the world, to admire it in all its natural beauty, to discover the most exquisite places, to learn about all the different, unique cultures, to meet diverse people, and  to experience all of that in the best way possible.

So far, I have seen that there is no one best way to do that. Some things are better experienced with savoir-faire, and long slow walks (like River Seine, Paris), some are best experienced by taking an elevator up a hundred and eight floors and just taking small steps in a glass balcony (ahem, Willis Tower, Chicago), some can only be understood by filling yourself up with the most delicious local food ever, sipping the most amazing local wine ever, and yet wanting dessert (yes, Italy, that’s you!), and others can just be known by living there (cough, Mumbai).

And so in search of the best ways to see the world, I want to talk about an outdoor activity that is my favorite – kayaking! It is something I can’t ever resist when I get the opportunity to do it! But I want to do it so much more, and in the most interesting and unique places. Seas, rivers, rainforests, caves, dolphins, icebergs, all of it.

That’s why I have made a list of 10 great international destinations that can be best experienced in a kayak, and where I would love to go kayaking someday!

The Things I Love about Kayaking

1. Milos, Greece

Waters of the Mediterranean are clearest and bluest in the Cyclades. Add to that a concoction of unique coastlines with caves and tunnels and arches, springs and rock formations, exotic local cuisine, whitewashed villages and uninhabited islands with volcanoes,  just waiting to be explored. How charming!

2. Lake Tahoe, Nevada

It’s not hard to see why a kayak will just make for an unforgettable experience at Lake Tahoe, where you can just spend hours admiring the purity and clarity of sparkling blue waters that make kayaks seem to be gliding across nothingness. The rocks, the flora and the surrounding mountains, all are admirable.
