The collection, paying a tribute to the royal Indian courtesans, is inspired by the Indian culture and dance. According to the designer, it is “reinterpreting the grandeur of royal courts”.

The fashion show was presented with dancer Manjari Chaturvedi’s performance of ‘Sufi Kathak’.

The fashion show brought together the quintessential Indian bridal wear – heavily embroidered lehenga choli, sarees and groom’s sherwanis. A saree-gown, a long jacket over an ombre lehenga or a jacket-sherwani were also thrown in the mix.

2-tarun-tahiliani-couture-collection-icw-2016-dresses-indian-danceThe color palette mixed soft pastels with rich reds and metallics – basically the colors you would see at any Big Fat Indian Wedding! Salmon pink and pastel grey sarees were paired with silver threadwork, bright red and brick red lehengas with gold zardozi and from bright pink to maroon to beige and black- the color palette was a wide one.

My favorite silhouette was undoubtedly the best one in Tarun Tahiliani’s latest couture collection- a heavy bridal lehenga in pale gold with red embroidery using Mughal architecture motifs including arches and chakras. The motif was a complete scene of a Mughal darbaar embroidered intricately onto the bottom half of the skirt. It was paired with a red tulle duppatta and bridal jewelry.tarun-tahiliani-couture-collection-icw-2016-dresses (18)-red-latest-designer-bridal-lehenga

Two other noteworthy looks were a black gown with lace sleeves that was reminiscent of the typical Venetian lace and translated this European inspiration in an Indian way, and a red lehenga with a strapless silk choli:
