After looking at countless fashion shows and celeb outfits, I’ve compiled a list of 21 summer must-haves for 2017. Here’s the ultimate shopping guide!
Hey gorgeous! The temperatures are rising with every passing day and the stores have already filled up with the Spring Summer collections. And if you’re like me, your shopping trips to update your wardrobe have already begun!! So many choices for summer clothes, but we can’t buy it all – the sad truth of life! 😛
So that’s why I’ve made your task easier by narrowing your shopping list down to the must haves. From total basics to the trendiest of trends, these 21 items are the summer must-haves for 2017!
Some of these are variations of what we already have in our closets and we need update them for that perfect 2017 look. (You can’t go out in those old jeans anymore, can you? They’re so 2016!) While the other items are totally new styles that are a must try this season.
All runway inspired. Plus I’ve done some extra homework to come up with the Summer fashion forecast. I’ve spotted these trends on celebs (which is what makes them must haves) and of course, selected affordable alternatives to the designer, big-ticket items. So after lots of hard work, countless views of SS17 fashion shows, researching latest celebrity outfits, and many trips to the mall to select these items, this 2017 summer shopping guide is months in the making.

Summer Must-Haves for 2017: Shilpa’s Shopping Guide
1. Crop Top
You probably have this in multiples already, and if so, you’re good to move on to item #2. Or you can try some trendy styles like peasant sleeve crop tops or embellished ones.

2. White Sneakers
Again, you probably already own a pair. If not, grab one now. They’re absolute essentials and are perfect for travel, weekend outings or casual Fridays, and will be in next season. Try the all white basic sneakers, or go for embellished or patchwork styles.

3. Choker
Both slim leather or metallic chokers or extra broad embellished ones are absolutely new styles. So pick your faves. Personally for me, summer must-haves include slim leather ones with a tiny pendant!

4. Cropped Ripped Boy Jeans
We’re seeing less of skinny and more of boy jeans on the runways. And they have to be cropped this season. Extra long denims with ankle wrinkles are totally out. Try the Ralph Lauren style faded ones (below) or Dolce & Gabbana inspired embellished jeans.

5. Structured Mini Sling Bag
We can’t have enough of ’em! Mini sling bags are still in, and will be trendy next season, too! Bright colors and metallics are a great idea. Go for structured ones – either rectangular or circular.

6. Off-the-Shoulder Top/Dress
A must try trend. Show off those toned shoulders in an off-the-shoulder top or dress. Great for dates, shopping trips and casual Fridays in the office.

7. Bodysuit
Another summer must-haves trend you have to try this season. Instead of the hip-length tops, wear a chic bodysuit with denims or a skirt for the perfect tucked-in look!

8. Layered Chain Necklaces
You can wear layered necklaces in combination with your choker, or as it is. Go for slim ones – pendant chains mixed with collar length chain-link necklaces. Or layer a couple of them for the jumbled up Madonna-esque look that was seen in Dolce & Gabbana FW17 show.

9. Leather Mini Skirt
Leather tops and jackets are high up amongst summer essentials, too, but leather skirt is the perfect trend to try in the summer heat. Wear a mini A-line skirt with a casual tee, or over a bodysuit for a really youthful look!

10. Athleisure
We’re seeing this tricky trend way more on the runways and on celebs than on the streets in real life! Co-ordinate an athletic jacket or crop sweatshirt with a pair of jogger pants or trendy leggings. Wear with matching sneakers or heels.

11. Round/ Cat-Eye Mirrored Sunglasses
You need sunglasses to complete any summer look. So go for a fashionable pair of mirror sunglasses – preferably round or cat-eye. Or a mix. I tried these silver ones below myself and they’re very statement-making! Although I ended up buying gold mirrored aviators. 😛

12. All White Outfit
Another tricky trend in our list of summer must-haves, but it’s an essential nonetheless. The trick is to match your shade of white. Match your accessories too – pile on white earrings or a choker with a white bag. So, so celebrity-inspired – this trend. And you can even wear a white co-ord set with black shoes.

13. Ruffle Sleeved Top/ Dress
I’m seeing this Spanish-inspired trend everywhere. Although I’m not trying it – yet. But it’s great for those who like ruffles.

They come in so many variations. You can go for a fully sheer top, or sheer back or sleeves. Or lace. You can even layer a sheer tee over a cute backless halter top.

Studded, velvet, embellished belts are all great to try in SS17. I’m loving the knotted styles, like this Gigi Hadid one.

16. Nude Lipstick
Nude lips were all over the SS17 runways and are total summer must-haves. They’re great for parties, office, or casual outings, too. You can pair them with smokey eyes, or matching cream-colored eyeshadow. So versatile!

17. Choker Top
When you wanna go a step further than wearing a choker, wear a choker top. Totally stylish! Go for a cool asymmetric or crop style. Or try a choker bodysuit with jeans.

Patchwork, embellishments, embroidery – they’re all in. And a jean jacket is the perfect thing to layer on in the cool breezy summer nights or to keep us cozy in those chilly offices!

19. Chunky Heels
These are anyways more comfy than slim pencil heels. So I’m all for them. Perfect for office days, or dance nights! Go for metallic, embroidered or embellished ones for parties.

Sequin or metallic dresses are a great investment for impromptu night-outs. This one below is something I spotted in the store today and it seemed totally comfy and light-weight.

We’re seeing so many unique shirt styles this season amongst the chicest summer must-haves – a fresh spin on the classic wardrobe essential. Try crop off-the-shoulder shirts or asymmetric tie-ups. Or something with statement sleeves.
