Summer Must-Haves for 2017: Shilpa’s Shopping Guide
1. Crop Top
You probably have this in multiples already, and if so, you’re good to move on to item #2. Or you can try some trendy styles like peasant sleeve crop tops or embellished ones.
Cape Crop Top: ₹1,790
2. White Sneakers
Again, you probably already own a pair. If not, grab one now. They’re absolute essentials and are perfect for travel, weekend outings or casual Fridays, and will be in next season. Try the all white basic sneakers, or go for embellished or patchwork styles.
Nike Air Max Thea Ultra Women’s Shoes: ₹9,897
Both slim leather or metallic chokers or extra broad embellished ones are absolutely new styles. So pick your faves. Personally for me, summer must-haves include slim leather ones with a tiny pendant!
4. Cropped Ripped Boy Jeans
We’re seeing less of skinny and more of boy jeans on the runways. And they have to be cropped this season. Extra long denims with ankle wrinkles are totally out. Try the Ralph Lauren style faded ones (below) or Dolce & Gabbana inspired embellished jeans.
Mid-Rise Boyfriend Jeans: ₹3,990
5. Structured Mini Sling Bag
We can’t have enough of ’em! Mini sling bags are still in, and will be trendy next season, too! Bright colors and metallics are a great idea. Go for structured ones – either rectangular or circular.
6. Off-the-Shoulder Top/Dress
A must try trend. Show off those toned shoulders in an off-the-shoulder top or dress. Great for dates, shopping trips and casual Fridays in the office.
Another summer must-haves trend you have to try this season. Instead of the hip-length tops, wear a chic bodysuit with denims or a skirt for the perfect tucked-in look!
8. Layered Chain Necklaces
You can wear layered necklaces in combination with your choker, or as it is. Go for slim ones – pendant chains mixed with collar length chain-link necklaces. Or layer a couple of them for the jumbled up Madonna-esque look that was seen in Dolce & Gabbana FW17 show.
9. Leather Mini Skirt
Leather tops and jackets are high up amongst summer essentials, too, but leather skirt is the perfect trend to try in the summer heat. Wear a mini A-line skirt with a casual tee, or over a bodysuit for a really youthful look!
Zara A-Line Black Leather Skirt: ₹1,890
We’re seeing this tricky trend way more on the runways and on celebs than on the streets in real life! Co-ordinate an athletic jacket or crop sweatshirt with a pair of jogger pants or trendy leggings. Wear with matching sneakers or heels.
Nike Dry Crop Women’s Long Sleeve Training Top: ₹3,695
11. Round/ Cat-Eye Mirrored Sunglasses
You need sunglasses to complete any summer look. So go for a fashionable pair of mirror sunglasses – preferably round or cat-eye. Or a mix. I tried these silver ones below myself and they’re very statement-making! Although I ended up buying gold mirrored aviators. 😛
12. All White Outfit
Another tricky trend in our list of summer must-haves, but it’s an essential nonetheless. The trick is to match your shade of white. Match your accessories too – pile on white earrings or a choker with a white bag. So, so celebrity-inspired – this trend. And you can even wear a white co-ord set with black shoes.
Stalk Buy Love White Desire Co-ords: ₹819
Zara Leather Effect Jacket: ₹4,990
Basic White Shoes: ₹2,890
13. Ruffle Sleeved Top/ Dress
I’m seeing this Spanish-inspired trend everywhere. Although I’m not trying it – yet. But it’s great for those who like ruffles.
14. Sheer Top
They come in so many variations. You can go for a fully sheer top, or sheer back or sleeves. Or lace. You can even layer a sheer tee over a cute backless halter top.
15. Statement Belt
Studded, velvet, embellished belts are all great to try in SS17. I’m loving the knotted styles, like this Gigi Hadid one.
Mango Studded Belt: ₹1,390
16. Nude Lipstick
Nude lips were all over the SS17 runways and are total summer must-haves. They’re great for parties, office, or casual outings, too. You can pair them with smokey eyes, or matching cream-colored eyeshadow. So versatile!
17. Choker Top
When you wanna go a step further than wearing a choker, wear a choker top. Totally stylish! Go for a cool asymmetric or crop style. Or try a choker bodysuit with jeans.
Koovs Choker Neck Front Top: ₹1,680
18. Patchwork/ Embroidered Denim Jacket
Patchwork, embellishments, embroidery – they’re all in. And a jean jacket is the perfect thing to layer on in the cool breezy summer nights or to keep us cozy in those chilly offices!
Denim Jacket with Embroidered Roses: ₹5,990
19. Chunky Heels
These are anyways more comfy than slim pencil heels. So I’m all for them. Perfect for office days, or dance nights! Go for metallic, embroidered or embellished ones for parties.
Zara Slingback Leather Ankle Boots: ₹5,990
20. Metallic Dress/ Top
Sequin or metallic dresses are a great investment for impromptu night-outs. This one below is something I spotted in the store today and it seemed totally comfy and light-weight.
Zara Sequin Dress: ₹3,990
21. Modern Classics
We’re seeing so many unique shirt styles this season amongst the chicest summer must-haves – a fresh spin on the classic wardrobe essential. Try crop off-the-shoulder shirts or asymmetric tie-ups. Or something with statement sleeves.
Zara Striped Blouse: ₹2,790
