Want to kick off the fresh new season with some cool runway-inspired makeup looks? Here are the top Spring 2019 beauty trends that’ll be everywhere! Say goodbye to last year’s makeup ideas!
Hey gorgeous! The charm of wearing makeup has been getting bigger and bigger every year. And while makeup so-called “gurus” on YouTube keep coming up with loud & extra makeup, the fashion weeks thankfully give us subtle, wearable inspirations. Which is why instead of listing Instagram or YouTube beauty trends, I love to analyze the runway trends.
Spring 2019 Beauty Trends
This year, I checked out more than 50 fashion shows to come up with this Spring 2019 beauty trends forecast. Generally, we’re seeing softer colors, subtler versions of makeup trends. It seems that the general trend is to showcase a youthful, hydrated, sun-kissed skin. The flawless skin is definitely out. Thank goodness! So let’s take a look at all the makeup trends for Spring Summer 2019…
1. Pastel Eyeshadow
Spring is all about light pastels and this year, it’ll be evident in the eye makeup. Floral shades like lilac, peach, coral and petal pink were all over the SS19 runways, and are one of the biggest Spring 2019 beauty trends. Try both matte and glossy eye makeup. My favorite go-to color in Spring 2019 will probably be a lighter shade of Pantone 2019 color of the year – Living Coral! Can’t wait to try a smokey eye of that shade!
2. Secret Makeup
Another version of the no-makeup makeup, this is all about looking like you are just born with healthy, youthful skin and moisturized lips yet showing at least some flaws. The secret makeup look doesn’t have any eyeliner, or visible mascara or lipstick whatsoever. So it’s mainly about taking care of your skin (hello, Korean morning skin care routine!). So find the perfect low-coverage foundation and get setting it with the fluffiest wet sponge so nothing shows at all. And comb your brows with gel so they’re set in place.
3. Glass Skin
Glass skin is a Korean beauty trend that’s been going viral on Instagram all last year. And a couple versions of it are now taking the runway by storm. Try the dewy skin makeup which we saw in fashion shows like Hermes and H&M X Moschino. Or go for a wet look as we saw in Prabal Gurung and Coach. My favorite version is what we saw in Chanel SS19 show, that uses lots of highlighter on super hydrated, healthy looking skin. Very youthful!
4. Neon Red Lip
Mostly, the Spring 2019 beauty trends are suggesting nude lips with secret makeup. But if you have to wear lipstick this spring/summer, it’s got to be neon red! I’m loving this shade. It goes with all skin tones, if you’re daring enough to try! And you can pair it with lots of different types of makeup looks. Go for a matte red lipstick with pale pink eyeshadow. Or pair a semi-matte neon red lip with dewy skin and neutral-colored eye makeup. Add loads of mascara and you’re party ready!
5. Blush-Tan/ Sun-Kissed Look
Looking sun-kissed with makeup is one of the biggest Spring 2019 beauty trends. Summer is all about hitting the beach, but even if you’re not, fake your tan with some bronzer or contouring powder. Bronzer is going to be one of the most important beauty products come spring.
To achieve this look, swap your coral blush with something a little more dusty rose. After putting the blush on, use a clean brush and lightly dust it over your nose and cheeks to remove some of the makeup, so that your freckles show. And dust the bronzer over the bridge of your nose, temples and the sides of your cheeks to look like a bronze goddess!
6. Bold Brows
Thick, bold eyebrows were a beauty trend last year too, and it’s time again to keep ’em full, yet well-groomed. So don’t overpluck them, and use a matching brow pencil to fill in the gaps. Use a light hand and absolutely AVOID creating a dramatic shape. The natural, undone look is in, and the dramatic, angular shape is out.
Then lightly comb them, upstyling them using a brow gel and set them in place. You can find a full tutorial on how to get perfect brows here.
7. Thick Liner
When it comes to eyeliner for 2019, the trend is go bold or go home. We saw thick, bold liner in various fashion shows like Versace and Dries van Noten. Either use a graphic liner pen to fill in the lower lid, touching your lashes. Or go for a nice cat eye. Or you can even add black glitter and make a bold statement.
8. Cat Eye
Cat eye is nothing new, but if you haven’t already, you gotta master it now. This is one of the most easily wearable Spring 2019 beauty trends, especially for street style. Personally, I love winged eyeliner and I wear it all the time. Both types of winged eyeliner techniques are in – slightly curved at the outer corner, or going straight up in a thick line. Go for black cat-eyeliner or use colors like blue, metallic gold or brown.
9. Glitter & Crystal
Glitter is back! And it brought friends along – gloss, shimmer and even crystal eye makeup! We saw bright pink crystal embellished lips and winged eye makeup. Try colors like green, pink punch. If you don’t want something so bold, you can use glitter on your eyelids by just sweeping some glittery shadow on the inner corners of your upper lid. Or use it with your winged eyeliner to create a sparkly smokey eye. Be careful with the spillover, though.
10. Designer Liner
As I said – go big or go home with the liner. Designer, graphic eyeliner is the order of the day. Or rather, this season. Let out the hidden artist within you and experiment with shapes of wings or make temporary tattoos with your eyeliner pencil like the Dior look.
11. Brown Smokey Eye
Black smokey eye is out, and spring summer is the time to try light, subtle smokey eye makeup. Shades of brown like tan, mocha and tawny can be used to create one of the top makeup looks for Spring 2019. I’m loving the idea of brown smokey eyes, since it’s more wearable, especially for casual parties or date nights in the summer. Black makes the eyes look smaller, so I’m going to try light brown instead. What shade of brown are you gonna try?
