Secret Previews: Lakme Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2016

Before Lakme Fashion Week 2016 starts, I am here to share the juicy secret previews of the designer collections including Manish Malhotra and Ridhi Mehra.

Hey fashion-lovers! Lakme Fashion Week starts tomorrow and before any of the shows happen, I am here to secretly share with you some of the juicy details of the designer collections!!!

I was traveling back from my Goa vacation last week through Mumbai, and had a chance to check out model fittings for two designer collections – Ridhi Mehra and EKAM. The experience with the LFW staff was, let’s just say, less than desirable (but more on that later).

Anyway, obviously checking out the designs before the shows was great. I created a short video with details and model fittings candid pictures! I also included Manish Malhotra’s model fitting clippings there! Let’s check it out:

Doesn’t it look exciting (the way I show it)?

Manish Malhotra Winter/Festive 2016

Looks like this season’s collection (#ManishMalhotraXTech) will be all about bright colors, (comparatively) less intricate embroideries and skirts with really long trains! I’m loving the long trains and some of the embroidery. The rest remains to be seen at the show, to which I am looking forward.

Ridhi Mehra Winter/Festive 2016

A lot of Indo-western silhouettes were seen with deep hues like emerald, crimson and navy. A lot of sequin embroidery was used, with motifs including diyas (lamps) and flowers, which I found neither exciting nor fresh. Plunging V-necks were the order of the day, as were bell-sleeves. The quality of embroidery and fabric was less than what you’d expect of high fashion designer collections, but since these are just model fittings, the final product remains to be judged. Either ways, so not looking forward to this one.

EKAM Winter/Festive 2016

A lot of layering was used in the EKAM collection, which works wonders for the Mumbai heat (if you’re looking for a sweat, that is!), especially with the sweaters! Large and bold motifs included faces, tigers and texts with bold colors like navy, white and bright red. The bold face motifs were weird and yet fun. Although the texts saying “Power” and “Make Art Not War” were just unoriginal if I compare them to some of the international collections from last to last year. And BTW, doesn’t “Make Art Not War” remind you of Chanel SS15 RTW?

Schedule: Lakme Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2016
