Eating well gives a spectacular joy of life and contributes immensely to goodwill and happy companionship. It is of great importance to the morale.” Elsa Schiaparelli, Shocking Life, 1954

The theme was set nicely into the collection, as dining table motifs and culinary inspiration were seen a lot. A set of sequin kettles embroidered on a jacket, a kitchen garden pattern embroidered onto a dress, common vegetables on a top and ornamental dinnerware printed on a skirt –  As the fashion house describes – “The very essence of Haute Couture is about creating the extraordinary out of the ordinary.”

Original and thought-provoking. And very cool. Even so, the kitchen theme will keep me from wearing it. I can visualize perhaps, Miley Cyrus rocking a lobster top or a vegetable garden crop jacket. But as a fashion girl living in a third world country where a girl’s everyday life is about fighting gender stereotypes, I wouldn’t wear a dress with dinnerware motif. A sequin top with some green peas and turnips to show my commitment to vegetarianism, maybe:

But a skirt with a pattern inspired by a dining table top – no, I wouldn’t. Because that would mean to reinforce the female stereotype, to remind people who believe that kitchen and dining are a female’s domain that that’s all a woman can do because her fashion proves it. And because ‘I wanna look like the ‘before’ version of Cinderella’, said no little girl ever!
