The Schiaparelli collection for Fall Winter 2017-18 Couture in Paris was dreamy and magical. “Rebelling against conservatism and pushing social boundaries, this feminine society was about self expression,” said the fashion show description. Indeed, the collection had feminine silhouettes finished with surrealist touches. The collection had many wearable outfits – some bold yet chic, others rebellious. The color palette had classic black and white, red, wine red, yellow, neon pink, beige and ombre tones. Fabrics included chiffon, tulle, silk, satin and velvet. Color blocking was seen – boldly in a few looks and subtly in a neutral palette in others, usually with white as a base.
The show started with casual wear that had party style elements in them. Like a jumpsuit with metallic patchwork sleeves and a patchwork metallic dress with Swarvoski embellishments.
Graphic prints were seen on dresses, jackets and on gowns, too! I loved the layered necklace patchwork on the sheer top tulle dress.
Embellishments were beautiful and were seen here and there, sometimes on sleeves and tops. Patchwork cropped jackets were the head turners – in quirky shapes like piano and puzzle shaped ones.
There were strapless, full sleeved, peasant sleeved and sleeveless gowns. Also a few gowns had sheer tops with structured and pleated skirts. Skinny belts and ribbon belts were draped around the gowns, defining the waistline.
Long capes were also seen in a few looks. We can visualize celebs rocking these silhouettes at the next big wedding or red carpet event! My favorites in caped gowns were a graphic print poofy gown with contrast colored cape and the showstopper outfit – a white layered mini dress with ruffled cape.
Accessories included full length gloves and statement drop earrings. In a few looks, a thin long scarf was wrapped around instead of necklaces. I feel the scarves could’ve had pendants giving an illusion of chokers – a choker scarf, maybe! Box clutches were seen in a few looks. We saw ankle length and metallic booties, strappy heels and pointed shoes with the house’s signature heart shape patchwork.
Overall, the collection was light with feminine touch but the fabrics, especially the sheer tops were too unwintery! Add a coat or two so we don’t freeze!
