Discover Rohit Bal Summer/ Resort 2016 collection that was the grand finale of Lakme Fashion Week. See the top looks & showstopper Kareena Kapoor’s lehenga.

Rohit Bal Summer Resort 2016 collection titled ‘Koroshni’ was all you would imagine it to be – quintessential royal outfits, precious stone-inspired color palette with lots of ivory and gold, and floral motifs against an ornate backdrop. Kareena Kapoor Khan was the showstopper for the fashion show.

All that really makes us question if the lines between signature and predictable are getting blurry. Lucky for him, when things get a little predictable, Rohit Bal mixes it up with simpler, fresher things. This year, those included cotton maxi dresses paired with embroidered jackets,

The runway was made to look like a gradiose palace at the venue, St. Xaviers College. Replete with Mughal arches and minarettes, the backdrop was lit up with a play of lights reminiscent of the Disney World – in an aristrocatic Indian heritage way. Mannequins adorned with Swarovski crystals and plants also decorated the runway.

The collection was inspired by ‘Illuminate’- Lakmé’s latest beauty collection. The silhouettes included Indian gowns paired with floor-touching full-sleeved jackets, lehengas, front-open jackets, crop jackets and crop capes. Menswear included sherwanis and long bundhgala jackets.

Rohit Bal keeps his clientèle in mind – Bollywood celebrities, Indian red carpet goers and extravagant wedding guests. He said about the collection, “Thrilled to be back as the Grand Finale designer after four years, I designed a collection of red carpet ready garments that are high on allure, incorporating floral patterns and colours that are bright, apart from my eternal favourite –ivory and muted gold.”

The showstopper lehenga choli worn by Kareena Kapoor was my favorite from the collection – very glamorous and rich, with every inch of the lehenga covered in intricate colorful embroidery, which is balanced with a solid-colored full-sleeved top in royal blue. Plus the very wavy hair and the rose pink makeup is just perfection.
