Ralph Lauren Fall/ Winter 2017 ready-to-wear fashion show showcased what the brand is calling “The February 2017 collection”, perhaps as a reference to the abundant number of collections luxury brands have to churn out annually these days. Marc Jacobs, for example, had a whole new set of looks just to showcase their saddle bags! Tough times, these! And fashion lovers like ourselves just love it, getting to ogle at so many beautiful collections!! Muhahaha!

With an exotic desert theme, the collection focused on a Middle Eastern color palette of earthy tones mixed with rich metallics – beige, pale gold, copper, bronze, burnished gold and white. Some precious stone colors like red, amethyst and emerald came coupled with black towards the end of the collection.

Exotic silhouettes like kaftans and tunics came alongside western classic wardrobe staples like cocktail dresses, slim crop pants, bar jackets, skirts and leather jackets, even though those, too, had a heady, foreign feel to them. Of course, because they were accessorized with large pendant gold necklaces and leopard print handbags or snake print ankle-strap wedges.

Some of the looks were very casual, everyday chic – jumpsuits or pants. Others had a feminine softness about their silhouettes – one-shoulder or slip dresses, see-through crochet kaftans, shoulder cut-outs or bell sleeves on dresses, waist-cut outs and floaty skirts on cocktail dresses.

Kendall Jenner and Bella Hadid were the familiar faces of this show, wearing crop white pants with beige jacket, and a peachy orange satin kaftan, respectively.

With the perfect western, familiar touch given to the Middle Eastern silhouettes, this collection scored high in terms on wearable glamour and memorable aestheticism. The part with the western pieces including pants, tops and mini-dresses can be worn as everyday street style. But the only question remains as to what kind of occasion would give us the opportunity to wear those copper dresses and pants. I can envision them befitting a hookah party, maybe? Or the next Ralph Lauren fashion show, perhaps?
