How to Be More Confident in Conversations?

Avika Sharma Asked

When I approach new people, how not to get nervous in front of them and be smart and confidently answer them ????

Hi! There are two things here: one is the initial nervousness one faces while talking to new people. And another is keeping the conversation interesting and meaningful. The first can be easily dealt with through practice. Before you talk to someone, it’s great to simulate the situation beforehand, and think of what you’re going to say. Like introducing yourself and all.

The second is something you can’t do with practice. I believe confidence here comes from thinking that it’s okay to say what you want to say, and say it clearly.

If you’re too worried about being judged, you won’t be able to be yourself. So try to be polite, humble and yet, try to say your point. It’s a different situation in every conversation.

When you have clarity of thought, you’ll be able to answer someone easily. And don’t worry too much. Everyone has impromptu conversations and not all of them will go well. Just make sure that you be yourself, and don’t put too much pressure on yourself to be perfect. Listen more in conversations, ask the other person about themselves, and understand their point of view too. Practise a lot by talking to more new people and soon it’ll become easier! 🙂
