1. Androgynous

As the trend catches on in the world’s major fashion capitals, genderless clothing is progressively finding its way into mainstream culture as a fashion movement. Thanks to young celebrities and fashion designers, people of all genders and sexual orientations are defying conventions with their clothing choices, hairstyles, accessories, makeup, and more.

To begin with, designers are rising to the challenge of creating a new wave of fashion. It isn’t just a fad, but a glimpse into the future of a completely versatile society. The latest Men’s Fall/Winter 2022 collections of various luxury giants such as Louis Vuitton, Fendi, Dolce & Gabbana, and Rick Owens fearlessly showcased their take on androgynous fashion on the runway. The more conventionally “masculine” clothing like suits and trousers are now incorporated with flowy kilts, skorts and versatile colors.

However, it’s not only the designers but also celebrities who are plunging head-first into this significant shift in the style narrative. Jaden Smith, Billy Porter, Harry Styles and Kid Cudi are among the many celebrities pioneering this movement. As a result, the trend is definitely moving in the gender-fluid direction. For fashion enthusiasts, singers, and also young heterosexual men inspired by their favorite celebrities.

Therefore, a fool-proof way to rock a gender-neutral style is by striking the perfect balance. For instance, one may pair a floral blouse with flowy pants in earthy tones. Similarly, over a fitted top, layer a structured blazer. Instead of a tie, you can opt for a stunning necklace.

2. Brights and Color Pops

While 2021 stimulated our desire for versatile, classic colors that encapsulated us in a feel-good environment, 2022 is increasing the urge to surround ourselves with colors that represent optimism, hopefulness, and hues that give us the energy to keep us mentally active.

Bright neons, perhaps is not the easiest color trend in the world to pull off. That being said, if you get it right, it can really work. For inspiration, take a peek at some of the biggest brands this season. From juicy reds at Louis Vuitton to shades of turquoise at Versace, sunshine yellow at Dolce & Gabbana and traffic cone orange at Hermes, vivid bright hues are the It-colors of the year.

These acid pop pieces complement solid, monochromatic neutrals like whites and blacks, beiges and greys beautifully. Use the classic color wheel to your advantage and choose the shades that complement your skin tone. This men’s fashion trend is making this season’s outfits instantly more stylish.

3. Texture Play

Fashion trends are always defined by the unique textiles used to create eye-catching looks. Therefore, keep your eyes peeled for the ultra-shiny satin, soft leather and unique textures in stores this year.

To begin with, if you think of satin and silk as feminine fabrics, you might be wrong. In 2022, these fabrics will be seen more than simply as tuxedo lapels. From Versace’s regal spin on the trench coat, Louis Vuitton’s head-to-toe monochromatic satin suit, and Dolce & Gabbana’s dapper V-neck blouse. The luxury giants did not shy away from showcasing their interpretation of the fabric on their Men’s Fall/Winter ’22 runway.

The color palette to take inspo from while choosing the perfect satin outfit for formal events consists of black, grey, maroon, and darker blues. Whereas, go for lighter tones of green, yellow, pink, and purple for casual outings.

Next, with the rising popularity of appliqué and textures, designers were seen offering these concepts on the F/W 22 runways, marking them as a major upcoming trend. Dior showcased a taupe sweatshirt with meticulously crafted spring flower appliqués. On the other hand, Rick Owens showcased a tangerine quilt detail fitted-at-the-waist bomber jacket imitating the snakeskin look. This super-wearable trend can be easily dressed up or down depending on the occasion.

Lastly, the tough and masculine traits of leather are now being reinterpreted as light, delicate, and sensuous. Yes, leather is no longer associated with grunge or biker boys. Instead, Hermes’ take on the leather trend in menswear is a tribute to luxury and comfort. Notice the absence of metallic studs, buckles, and rivets? As one of the top men’s fashion trends in 2022, it appears to be eyeing a different perspective. A softer side of leather merging with everyday fashion.

4. Peekaboo

No shame in the sneak-peak game. If 2022 proves anything, it is that skin is in. With smartly placed cut-outs on vests, pants, and jumpers, it is one of the top men’s fashion trends in 2022. So, if you are someone who doesn’t mind adding a little oomph factor to their fashion game, this trend might be the one for you.

From Burberry’s structured hooded vests, Dolce & Gabbana’s lacey suits, Fendi’s pullovers and Louis Vuitton’s mesh vest and pants, designer giants unveiled their version of the daring cuts which were anything but boring.

5. Co-ordinates

Co-ords, short for coordinated sets, are basically a set of matching tops and bottoms. And the trend isn’t just popular among women, it is also becoming increasingly popular among men. The recent FW22 runways of Kenzo, Loewe, Louis Vuitton, Bianca Saunders, and others showcased a flurry of matching separates in artistically realized colorful prints. So, what is it about the co-ords that makes it one of the top men’s fashion trends?

Co-ords are already popular, thanks to trends like tone on tone. The best part about this trend is that it is hassle-free, so you won’t have to waste time deciding which pants to go with which shirts, and vice versa. It’s the perfect choice for men who struggle to put together a look. You can pair them together or style them separately by mixing and matching.

However, styling co-ord sets can be a wee bit tricky, and if not done right, you risk committing a fashion faux pas. For instance, if you’re wearing a printed top with bottoms, the ideal decision would be solid-colored shoes or sneakers rather than going all-out multicolor. To finish the look off, you can always choose a funky fanny pack and quirky vintage sunnies.

6. Statement Shoulders: Go Big or Go Home

This season, your shoulders will certainly speak for themselves. From extravagantly broad shoulder silhouettes to geometrically flawless precision cuts. It was perhaps best seen at Prada where the huge shoulder element was incorporated in a cinched crimson trench coat, with the first half of the torso protruding outwards dramatically.

However, don’t worry guys, the big shoulder trend won’t be THAT big. Choosing a silhouette similar to Louis Vuitton’s iteration of the trend will certainly be a safer bet.

A bold structured shoulder silhouette instantly adds power to your outfit and is the finest shape to wear when you need a confidence boost. Whether you’re going to a party or seeking to make an impact at work, shoulders are the major menswear moment for 2022.

7. Fluid Silhouette

While some may believe that street wear has grown stale this season, the outfits on the men’s Fall/Winter runways suggest otherwise. This season’s catchphrase? Freedom. As a result, this season was filled with a rush of colorful pieces, easy tailoring, and fluid fabrics.

The trend was first seen in the mid-2010s, but it was short-lived, with occasional revivals throughout the decade. This year’s FW22 shows saw a dramatic change. The slightly loose pieces appeared much too frequently to be ignored.

From Dolce & Gabbana’s colorful designs to Prada’s sublime gender-fluid look, and Louis Vuitton’s flowy skorts. This fashion trend is definitely distinguishing itself as the new normal’s uniform and is one of the most comfortable men’s fashion trends to try this season.

8. Print Fiasco

Bold and brazen fashion trends have always existed, but in recent years, the buzz surrounding quirky prints has been insane. So, if you are someone who likes to experiment with vivid colors, striking prints and unique designs, it is time to keep an eye out for bold prints.

Additionally, it turns out it is not only us but even the designers who are fed up of the typical blues, greys, and serious men’s fashion trends. Proof could be found in the astounding array of colors on display on the recent runways.

Injection of acid-pop prints and Italian summers at Louis Vuitton or playful state-of-the-art t-shirts at Loewe. Adding a little razzle-dazzle to your outfit is always fun.

To begin with, find a print that you can wear beneath something, like a printed shirt under a suit or blazer. This is the easiest way to slowly incorporate playful prints into your current wardrobe. A classic silhouette style with minimal accessories will always make your outfit look balanced.

9. Fem-Inspired

Men’s fashion, in particular, has recently shifted to be more inclusive of and welcoming of historically more feminine trends. From Dolce & Gabbana’s bedazzled sheer turtle neck, Loewe’s super fitted tuxedos, Fendi’s cut-out jumper and Rick Owen’s flamboyant body jewelry. The impact is amplified on the regular by A-list celebrities like Kid Cudi, A$AP Rocky, Harry Styles, Lil Nas X and more.

Although wearing skirts, dresses, and other particularly feminine clothing might seem scary at first, the assumption that fashion must be gendered is antiquated and unjustified.

Therefore, dressing in typically feminine fashion trends will not always make your outfit appear more feminine, but it can make your style appear bolder. For instance, lace is often associated with femininity. However, black-colored lace ensembles like jackets and vests easily look edgy when styled right.

10. Focus on the Sleeves

Designers and high-fashion labels alike are experimenting with the volume and size of the sleeves. The trend has moved from retail to mass to street, and it shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon. Sleeves with details like leg-o-mutton, fur detailing, puff sleeves with ruching, ruffling, and boxy elements brought a playful 1680s twist to modern fashion this runway season.

Puff sleeves with cuffs secured and incorporated in classic tuxedos, as seen at Dolce & Gabbana and fur trimming near the elbows at Dior and Prada are two major styles in this trend.

A very wearable and impossible to ignore statement sleeves trend can be translated in numerous ways. A touch of drama to your business suit will always look the best when paired with basic trousers in clean fabrics for a more tailored ensemble.

11. Super Baggy Cargo Pants

Browsing through Men’s Fall/Winter collections, my mind kept taking notes of all the 90’s inspired ensembles. However, there was one trend that I kept seeing repeatedly in different collections. Leg-enveloping pants at Loewe, the somewhat slimmed-down iteration at Fendi, or the co-ord baggy ensemble at Louis Vuitton. This season, baggy cargo pants resurrected in full force on the runways.

I for one, am all for this trend. We’ve been wearing skinny pants for so long that anything even vaguely not-skinny looks refreshing to me at this point. Yes, there is such a thing as “too baggy”. However, it’s all about striking the right balance between too baggy and too skinny.

It is amazing how one can style these utility cargo pants in numerous ways. With the right amount of baggy silhouette, flattering pockets, as well as the feel of a proper dress pant combined with the comfort of a chino. These cargo pants can be styled up for a dinner date or styled down for a more casual look.

The pandemic season has evolved its own trends, which are pretty comforting. Whether we return to our previous normal or not, these men’s fashion trends will continue to make an impact.
