From Rohit Bal to Manish Malhotra, from long trails to ruffles, discover the latest ethnic fashion trends for 2018!
The ethnic fashion trends are something that all of us want to be updated about at all times. And the best place to look for trending styles is the top Indian designers’ collections in the fashion weeks. So if you’re looking to update your wardrobe with latest ethnic fashion trends, then here you go! I have done research on the latest ethnic fashion trends from Lakme Fashion Week and Amazon India Week for this year. Let’s take a look!
Latest Ethnic Fashion Trends for 2018
1. Uniquely Draped Outfits
If you wanna make a real statement, this trend would be a great idea. ‘Cause this year, designers are coming up with various draping styles in different ethnic dresses like sarees, gowns, kurtas and lehengas. Go for asymmetrically layered anarkalis or kurtis with western-inspired drapes. Wear these to parties, fashion events and shows for a flattering and sexy look.
2. 3D
The best way to dress up your wedding wardrobe is by going ethnic. However, you don’t have to go for the boring ol’ embellished sarees and lehengas. In fact, try ethnic Indian outfits with a flouncy 3D twist that are new this season. We saw designers on the runways come up with large three-dimensional ruffled and layered sleeves and skirts. We loved this trend on the runways of Gaurav Gupta and Gauri & Nainika, which is inspired by three-dimensional couture dresses at Paris Fashion Week 2018.
3. Long Statement Sleeves
Long sleeves are in vogue! If you want something more sophisticated than those sleeveless and full-sleeved dresses, here is something for you. Long sleeves are back! And we saw loose asymmetric, ruffled, thigh high, knee-length and some even those that go to the floor on ethnic dresses. This style is a great option for cocktail or evening parties.
4. Bralettes
Behold the lingerie-inspired ethnic fashion trend – bralettes are taking over the Indian fashion world! If you wanna try a sexier and bolder trend, then here you are! This season we saw kurtas, gowns, saree and lehenga blouses that are inspired by bikinis and bralettes as seen on the runways of Shyamal & Bhumika, Aratrik Dev, Neha Agarwal and many more. Great idea for your engagement or sister’s wedding or a fashion show.
5. Tiered Lehengas & Skirts
Tiered is the new poofy.
Tiered skirts, adorned with a series of layers are very trendy in 2018. And the best thing about this trend in designer ethnic wear is that it works well for all body types. Ethnic Indian dresses like gowns, lehengas and kurtas look classy and stylish with just two or multiple layers. We saw embellished, bordered, embroidered and plain outfits on the runways of Anju Modi, Anushree Reddy, Reshma Kunhi and many more. Wear them to sangeet or mehendi.

6. Belted Ethnic Outfits
When it comes to fashion, belts aren’t exactly the first thing we are excited about! After all, belts have always been an essential accessory for men. But in case of women, not so much! But this season you wanna think of them as essential statement accessories because they are catching up fast. We saw plain, printed and embellished belts paired with lehengas, sarees, gowns and kurtas give a stylish and sophisticated look. Also, belted outfits make you look chic and slim, and help add structure to the entire outfit.
7. Long Trails
Long trail ethnic outfits not just look glamorous but also give that princessy feel. This design in the bridal gowns and lehengas is so romantic that we can’t get enough of this trend. The longer the trail, the more gorgeous look it gives to the entire outfit. We saw long trails on gowns, lehengas, sarees with off-the-shoulder to floor touching sleeves. Perfect idea for sangeet, weddings and receptions.
8. Ruffles
Ruffles were one of the amazing trends we saw in the fashion weeks. Most of the top Indian designers came up with this trend in their collections. We saw ruffles on the sleeves, the border of the saree and gowns, hems of the cholis on the runways of Adarsh Gill, Malini Ramani, Ashwini Reddy and more. I’m loving this Indian ethnic wear outfit by Ashwini Reddy.
9. Jackets
Jackets are still very trendy this season! We saw plain, embroidered, and embellished ethnic jackets paired with lehengas, sarees, kurtas and gowns in Lakme Fashion Week. Outfits paired with jackets are best for winter weddings. To make your look more classy and royal, wear a contrasting one with your outfit! Jackets are also a great way to re-wear old outfits with a whole new look! I’m loving the designed lehenga with contrast jacket by Adarsh.
