We also took care of all our beauty needs pretty much right at home. From skincare to hair care, we all made an at-home self-care routine. And today I’m here to tell you about how to do a pedicure at home!
You can do your own pedicure right at home. We are always on our feet (quite literally) when running errands or completing a task. But when it comes to taking care of our feet, we tend to ignore them. From our face to hands to legs, we try to keep them clean and well-groomed. But feet are the most neglected parts of the body, which leads to dry cracked heels.
We all know that personal hygiene is necessary for everyday life and it extends all the way down to the toes. Feet hygiene is very important for better health as our feet are exposed to more dirt and pollution. This is because we walk barefoot or even the shoes we wear tend to build bacteria, which leads to fungal infections.
So, to achieve clean, soft, and healthy feet, you don’t need to spend much. You require basic equipment and some time to spare. This can be your time to relax and rejuvenate, too. You can create a lovely spa kind of experience at your home to unwind.

What is a Pedicure?
A pedicure is a treatment for feet and toenails where the dead skin cells are scrubbed off of the bottom of the feet. This procedure also relaxes the foot muscles by massaging. Later, the nails are trimmed to a desired shape.
Benefits of a Pedicure
Here are a few benefits of pedicure –
1) Pedicure provides relaxation. Your feet need to relax after carrying all the weight (literally!) Even if you’re not that busy, walking, standing makes your feet do all the work as it has to withstand your weight. A pedicure session is a great way to relax.
2) A pedicure helps in maintaining your foot health. During a pedicure, you massage your feet, which helps in blood circulation throughout your feet. Also, cleansing and scrubbing keep your feet healthy.
3) Your feet will look all pretty and glammed up. Who doesn’t want pretty feet? A pedicure will instantly freshen up your feet and make ’em Instagram ready! 😉
Tools Required to Do a Pedicure at Home
We’ve listed out the basic tools required for a DIY pedicure. You would already have most of these at your home. If not they are easily available at general stores as a pedi/ mani kit!
1) Nail tools – nail cutter, nail file, cuticle cutter
2) Pumice stone
3) Foot file
4) Nail polish remover & cotton pads
5) Cuticle oil or any moisturizing oil
6) A tub of warm water
7) Foot cream or moisturizer
8) Epsom salt and lemon slices (optional)
9) Nail paint (optional)
Steps Involved in a Pedicure
Here are the steps involved to do a pedicure at home. We have tried to include natural ingredients to make the process easy. Also, natural products help you get super clean and healthy nails.

These steps are quite similar to a facial like cleansing, scrubbing, and moisturizing. So, let’s check out a step-by-step procedure to do a pedicure at home!
Cleansing your feet is the first step of a pedicure just like in a facial. This step helps to get rid of impurities from your feet. You can use any natural mild cleanser that you own. Or you can use a mixture of milk and honey and dab your feet with a cotton ball. Always remove the nail paint before starting to cleanse your feet.
You can soak your feet in a tub of warm water. Add Epsom salt, lemon juice, and a few drops of shampoo or a body wash (optional). You can even soak just in plain warm water, too. But the lemon juice works on the dead skin and Epsom salts have a relaxing effect on tired and sore muscles.
You can add essential oils for a soothing experience. For a spa-like experience, you can light some candles and add some flowers to the water.
After cleansing your feet, the next step is to scrub. You need to invest in a good quality brush. You can use any scrubbing creams that you use for your face or natural ones like orange peel powder, coffee powder, or finely ground almonds. If you’re looking for something milder, try fresh fruit scrubs like apricot or kiwi mixed with powdered sugar.
Apply the paste all over your feet both front and back of your feet and gently massage for about 4-5 minutes. This helps to get rid of impurities and opens up the pores. Then, dip your feet again in the warm water and clean your feet.
You can scrub your legs, too until your knees. If you have someone to help like your partner, friend, or sister, then they can massage your legs as it’s soothing. Or you can massage them yourself.
You can rest your legs in the warm water for a while to relax. Now you can use a pumice stone to clean the upper part of your feet. Gently move the stone around your feet and massage. Focus on your heels, toes, and sides of the feet to get rid of the dead and hard skin around them.
You can scrape off the dead skin cells to get rid of cracked heels. Be careful with them and avoid over-scrubbing. Wash your feet and pat them dry with a towel.
3. Shaping/ Filing
Clipping your nails is important to maintain hygiene. If you love long nails, I would suggest keeping them for your mani session. Trim your toenails as they tend to attract bacterial infections soon.
After clipping, file your nails with a filer to the desired shape. You can keep it a simple round shape that’s au naturel.
4. Cuticle Removal
After shaping your nails, the next step is to remove the cuticle. Most healthcare experts suggest not to remove the cuticle as it helps to protect the nails and skin surrounding them from infection.
The cuticle is removed for smooth application of the polish and it stays for a longer time. Instead, you can push the cuticle back after massaging your nails with cuticle oil. Try using a cuticle pusher. It’s available in most beauty stores.
The next step is nail buffing. The nails are polished using a small buffing board. It makes your nails shiny and removes the ridges, making the texture smooth.
This is an additional and optional step to do a pedicure at home. In salons, this step is included if you opt for a spa pedicure. You can skip this step if you don’t have enough time.
Once you’re done with buffing you can apply any homemade masks like rice flour with milk or oats powder mixed with curd or even some cocoa powder mixed with water for a chocolacious experience. Let the mask stay for 10-15 minutes and wash it with water.
Massaging your nails with oil is essential for quick growth. You can use olive, almond, or coconut oil and massage your nails for 2-3 minutes. Oiling also moisturizes your nails giving a smooth and shiny finish.
If you’re not a fan of using oils, you can massage with aloe vera gel or any serum.
Moisturizing is the last step to a pedicure at home. It helps to retain all the moisture around your nails. Apply any moisturizer on your feet and legs. You can massage for a while and let it sink into your skin.
After moisturizing, wait for at least 20 minutes and then apply a base coat of polish to your nails. Or you can let it be and apply polish after a day. This helps your nails to breathe for a while without any external products.
