Best Looks: Milan Fashion Week Spring Summer 2019
Dolce & Gabbana: Opulence & Realism
As all Dolce & Gabbana’s collections go, the SS19 was no exception – full of Italian luxury, rich materials, excessive details and everything extra! And then it also lovingly balances it with real life wearability – by pairing it with gold headphones and white sneakers!
Versace: The Floral Print Menagerie
Such a print-friendly collection. The prints in Versace Spring 2019 collection may have been small, but the looks were bold because they got so busy with print-on-print pairings. And not just floral tops with floral bottoms. Think floral jewelry, floral hair accessories, floral embellishments, and floral printed leggings. Did I forget anything? Yes, bags!
Some of the combinations were too busy to be wearable IRL. And to choose a non-print-on-print look would not do justice to this collection. So, I chose this one – it’s a busy look, but it pulls it off. All thanks to layering, which is this decade’s It-thing. That’s why layering was big in Milan Fashion Week Spring Summer 2019.
Moschino: Taking the Atelier Out on Stage
Moschino SS19 collection didn’t disappoint, as Jeremy Scott continues to raise expectations from fashion. In a behind-the-scenes-come-forward theme, the outfits showed marker strokes, sketched out jewelry, fabric rolls and other atelier stuff. Here’s a look to show that casual strokes can work even on evening gowns… err, mini-dresses. Especially if you’re Kendall Jenner and carrying a giant perfume for no reason. But give me those pumps, please.
Marni: Mixing Art and Geometry
I’m not sure if I’ve ever included a Marni look in one of my previous best looks from fashion week review, or in too many of our fashion trend analyses. But as we do expect any collection can be impressive anytime, we keep watching the shows, hoping for the best! Loved this organic art printed dress with a one-off-shoulder, paired with geometric shaped sunglasses and bag. Very spring! It looks like something one would’ve picked up during a travel from an artist studio.
Prada: Young Fashion Redefined
Very youthful silhouettes and accessories defined Prada SS19 collection. Perhaps age is just a number and one can pull these looks off at any age. But certainly, for a young girl, an outfit needs to be as grownup looking as possible! So Prada is making the case for her to embrace knee-high stockings, midi-skirts, headbands and Mary Janes with a pointy-toe and heeled twist.
Tod’s: Practicality Meets Chic
Other than layering, the one thing that was big in Milan Fashion Week Spring Summer 2019, was just slightly over-sized clothes. Just as a modern fashion ready-to-wear collection should be, Tod’s Spring Summer 2019 collection was beautiful, with loads of wearable pieces put together in a mod way. They screamed comfort with their relaxed fit. The color palette was wearable too, mixing neutrals with warm spices and blue shades. The modern woman has a job to do. Move over, itchy appliques and trailing skirts.
Giorgio Armani: Cloudy Skies & Iridescence
With a muted palette of carbon grey, silver, dove, steel blue and lilac, the collection was similar to Tod’s in the sense of wearability and modern basics like crop pants, casual jackets, loose blouses and long dresses. And then it redefined luxury loungewear with iridescent fabrics I’m yet to learn the names of, and the slimmest bags you’ve ever seen. And I’m glad we can just paint over our old garden hoses and wrap them over the shoulders as a capes.
Roberto Cavalli: New Wardrobe Basics
Heavy patterns, sequins and bar jackets were abundant. The collection also made a case for wearing cycling-like shorts with lapel jackets, which is very Kardashian-esque. 2018 is becoming a lot about establishing new wardrobe basics for women. Case in point – deconstructed work wear, such as suit jackets and striped button-up shirts made casual.
Alberta Ferretti: The Handsfree Traveling Girl
Why, remind me, do we still need to carry handbags in 2018? When we can do everything from payments to storing our lists (every woman loves making lists) to taking great pictures to even add makeup in pictures, just on our phones! As far as I’m concerned, I’ve stopped buying and carrying handbags. So, comfy trousers with pockets large enough to fit my phone are more than welcome.
And can we just appreciate the comfortable pants here that redefine luxury loungewear? Sometimes it gets hot and we need simple, breathable clothes.
Max Mara: Is Showing Skin Still Trendy?
Pairing pants with dresses is a trend we’ve been seeing for the past few seasons. Barely anyone pulls it off IRL though. So here we have a new take on it – slacks and midi dresses in monochromes with a warrior-princess-turned-urban-gal feel to it!
