Color Trends 2016: Latest Colors to Wear in Spring Summer 2016

Wanna know what colors to wear in Spring Summer 2016? Check out as we pick the latest color trends for 2016 from the couture and ready-to-wear runways!

Hey gorgeous! It’s Holi today, the festival of colors. So, Happy Holi! And while I am missing my hometown Chandigarh, because they don’t do Holi in Chennai, there’s still no reason why I can’t celebrate colors, right? So that’s why I’m writing about the latest fashion color trends for Spring Summer 2016 – all from the fashion week!

This season will be a mix and match of so many different colors. It’s really like an artist’s color palette. I saw brights as well as pastels, metallics as well as tonal colors on the runways. So I categorized them on the basis of color types. Let’s check them all out!

Color Trend #1: Achromatic Colors

The most commonly spotted colors on the runways were the classics – white, black and grey! They never go out of style – the little black dresses, the ethereal white gowns or the sober grey cocktail dresses. They’re there for us when we really “don’t have anything to wear”! Some fashion houses like Dior, Zuhair Murad and Versace had almost entire collections made in black and/or white. We’re not complaining!

Color Trend #2: Pastels

Pastels and powdery hues were seen a lot on the runways – peaches, pale pinks, powdery greens and blues, lavender and lilac. Designers like Ralph & Russo, Schiaparelli & Zuhair Murad had loads of pastels in their collections.

Color Trend #3: Saffron & Yellow Tonal Colors

Saffron is to 2016 what marsala was to 2015. We saw quite a bit of yellows and saffrons and everything in between in the SS16 ready-to-wear collections like Prabal Gurung and Jonathan Saunders, but we also saw some in couture collections. And it’s a very fresh hue – very summery – so I’m totally lovin’ it!

Color Trend #4: Nudes & Neutrals

It’s Spring Summer, so of course, nudes and neutrals are on our top color list. This includes beige rose, ecru, tan, sand and fawn. Chanel’s complete SS16 couture collection was designed around “the beige spectrum”. (Check it out all those shades our Chanel SS16 review). And we also saw plenty of nudes in the Valentino collection.

Color Trend #5: Candy Shades

I love associating candy colors with early summer! For Spring Summer 2016, the candy color trends include everything from rose pink to neon pink. The lighter pinks were seen a lot in Diane von Furstenberg SS16 RTW collection, and the brighter end in Monique Lhuillier collection.

Color Trend #6: Sky Blue

Sky blue finds its way into both summer and winter collections. No wonder it’s one of my favorites – that wicked little devil! No matter how black or white or neutral every designer’s collection was – this season, we found a little light blue everywhere!

Color Trend #7: Metallic Hues

From burnished gold to liquid mercury to silver, copper and white gold – we saw everything this season. Guo Pei, Ralph & Russo and Valentino had most of the metallic shades in their collections. The copper colored dress by Prabal is amazing.

Color Trend #8: Bright Reds

Scarlets and burgundys of winter have given way to tomato and coral reds this spring! Dolce & Gabbana, Dior and Versace had the reddest bright reds this season!
