We’re obsessed with runway-inspired high-low fashion trend. From brunches to dates, here are 8 trendy ways to wear maxi & high low tops.
Hey beautiful! 🙂 There’s a new trend in town we never knew we needed and we’re obsessed!
Maxi Tops & the High-Low Fashion Trend
Maxi and high-low tops are one of this season’s hottest trends, making it a wardrobe staple of a fashion-forward woman. They were spotted in the Fall/Winter Ready-to-Wear Collections 2017. We saw a lot of different styles in maxi and high-low tops from velvet to sequins and sheer and everything in between. Silhouettes such as the front-slit maxi, long button-up shirts, side-slit tops and asymmetric tops ruled the runways. I personally loved the knit high-low with the sequinned trim by Christopher Kane. So unique and so out-there!
This trend is definitely one to try out before the colder months set in. Celebs such as Kylie Jenner and Chrissy Teigen have already been spotted wearing and loving this brand new, right-off the runway trend of high-low tops. Based on the runway looks we’ve seen this season, I think it’s safe to say that this trend is here to stay!
From ripped jeans to mini-skirts, maxi and high low tops can be paired with all your wardrobe staples. These tops are so versatile, you could wear them anywhere and anyone can rock them. Let me show you how!
How to Wear High-Low Tops
1. Glam High-Low Fashion Trend for a Date Night
Go glam with a structured high-low top in a bold color like red and combine it with the season’s top trends for a chic look. A pair of leather pants is a must-have because they look great with just about anything! Accessorize with a matching or metallic clutch and strappy heels. Add a French mani and go for a minimal nude or a shimmery eye depending on how bold you want your look to be. Pop on a pair of cat-eye sunglasses for a day to night look and there you have it – the perfect date outfit!
2. Cold-Shoulder Maxi Top for a Casual Outing
Who said comfort needs to be compromised when fashion comes into play? Wear a flowy cold-shoulder top with distressed boyfriend jeans or baggy jeans to achieve the maximum level of comfort while looking ever so cool. Catch up on the embroidery trend with embroidered accessories. Opt for sneakers or slip-ons instead of a heel for extra comfort.
Also, paired with a cold-shoulder or off-shoulder is the perfect way to rock a choker. Keep the eyes and lips understated and subtle. Whether you wear it to a friend’s birthday party or just a casual shopping trip, you’re bound to make a statement.
3. Sheer High-Low Top for a Night-Out
Here is an idea for a go-to outfit for a night out with your girl friends. Sheer tops for women are a great idea to try in this kind of outfit. Sheer and metallic compliment each other so well, I couldn’t not put them in a look together. Go all out on the make up with a bold lip, shimmery eye and smoke it out. When it comes to this look, more is less, so pile on the accessories and watch yourself stand out in a crowd!
4. Peplum High-Low Top for an Office Party
Culottes may be tricky to work with but worn with the right types of tops, they look amazing. For an office party or a dressy casual Friday, pair a peplum high-low with culottes to look exceptionally chic. One of the best ways to sport high-low fashion trend in a formal or semi-formal setting is over flared or cigarette pants. Keep the accessories and make-up to a bare minimum with a neutral colored sling bag, stilettos and nude make-up.
5. Boho Maxi Top for a Beach Party
If bohemian is your aesthetic, then this is the look for you! This would also be an ideal beach party outfit. Wear a floral side-slit maxi top with high-waisted denim shorts or a denim skirt. Go for boho-chic accessories such as a fringed bag and tassel earrings. Finish off the look with a warm toned metallic eye shadow and a bright colored pout.
6. Denim High Low Top for School/ College
Looking for something to wear for the back to school season? Well, look no further!
Denim high low fashion is very versatile and it works exceptionally well with a pair of ripped jeans. Don a dark color on the nails and lips. Ankle-length booties and a studded bag complete the outfit. You could always tone down the grunge vibes by choosing a more subtle color for the eyes, lips and nails or throw on a leather jacket to amp it up.
7. Lace High-Low Top for Brunch
This one’s for you if you like feminine outfits with an edge. Black is quite an unusual color for brunch fashion because everyone prefers pastels and off-whites. So, go for it when you wanna try something different and team it with a printed or pastel mini skirt. Keep the makeup soft and delicate with pastel eye shadow and lipstick and balance it out with a dark solid colored bag. Add on a pair of statement earrings and you’re good to go!
8. Ruffled Strapless High-Low Top for a Vacation
Solid whites work extremely well with prints. So, be a bit adventurous and go for bold printed trousers or shorts. Keep it comfy with wedges or chunky heels if you plan on doing a lot of sight-seeing. Pair it with a brightly colored bag and a statement necklace and vacation in style!
