Guo Pei Fall-Winter 2016/17 couture collection is all about grandeur, opalescence and royalty. It’s difficult to capture these qualities fully in pictures, because this gallery doesn’t do justice to the looks as seen in the fashion show!

The collection started with an iridescent silver mermaid gown fit for a queen – replete with all-over embellishments, full-sleeves and a crown. It paved way for the rest of the looks, which were similarly queen-like. The silhouettes were mostly gowns, some ball-gowns, some mermaid or sheath with long trains, with the exception of some midi-dresses and one asymmetric dress.

The color palette was that of precious stones and metals – ruby, sapphire, opal, emerald, black, aquamarine, copper, silver and gold. Some gowns were entirely gold or other previous stone/metal colors, and others had large embroidered embellishements on them in gold. Gold, copper and sequin embellishments were also prominent.

Velvet and fur were played up really interestingly. While a midi-dress used velvet to add volume, another black gown used fur along the collarbone to add a royal fringe.

The mermaid and figure hugging cuts added as much femininity to the collection as the off-shoulder or plunging V-necks. Plus, statement earrings and crowns! Overall, it’s everything an urban royal woman would want.

My favorite looks in the collection were a burgundy fringe gown with gold collarbone embroidery and the finale gown in gold:
