21 Best Sleepover Movies of All Time
1. Austenland
Released: 2013; Cast: Keri Russell, JJ Feild
This movie may not be all that popular but it is one of the best sleepover movies to watch with your girl friends. It’s not your run-of-the-mill chick flick, it has a very fresh and different storyline. The story revolves around Jane, a young woman who is obsessed with Pride and Prejudice and all things Jane Austen. She travels to Austenland, a resort that offers the complete Austen regency era experience. Once there, she struggles to differentiate between what’s real and what’s not. This one’s by far the most unique and non-typical chick-flick on this list and also my favorite!
2. Beastly
Released: 2011; Cast: Alex Pettyfer, Vanessa Hudgens
Beastly, a contemporary retelling of the classic fairy tale, Beauty and the Beast, is about Kyle, a wealthy, vain and narcissistic young man who is cursed by a witch with a spell that turns his face as ugly as his soul. His only way out is finding someone that loves him for who he is on the inside. This movie is very heart-warming and sweet and one you can watch more than just once!
3. John Tucker Must Die
Released: 2006; Cast: Jesse Metcalfe, Brittany Snow
This hilarious chick flick is the ideal movie to watch at a sleepover. It stars Jesse MetCalfe as John Tucker, a playboy and serial cheater. Three of his ex-girlfriends and the new girl in school, Kate, team up and decide to give him a taste of his own medicine by making him fall in love with Kate and then have her dump him. But things get complicated when she begins falling for John. This is by far one of my favorite chick flicks and one that I’ve watched more than a few times at sleepovers.
4. 10 Things I Hate About You
Released:1999; Cast: Heath Ledger, Julia Stiles, Joseph Gordon-Levitt
This movie stars a 20 year old Heath Ledger. Need I say more? The dreamy heart-throb is enough reason to watch this movie. The story line is based on Cameron, a teenager who is not allowed to date Bianca until her older sister, Kat, an ill-tempered and anti-social girl has a boyfriend. So, he pays Patrick Verona, the rebellious bad boy of the school to charm her. It is truly one of the best romantic comedy films ever made!
5. Bride Wars
Released: 2009; Cast: Kate Hudson, Anne Hathaway
This popular chick flick is a story of two women who’ve been best friends since childhood with the same dream – ‘A June wedding at the plaza hotel’. But when their weddings get scheduled for the same day, they turn into sworn enemies and go to extreme lengths and try to sabotage each others weddings. This would be a good sleepover movie to watch with your bff as it focuses on the relationship between two best friends.
6. 27 Dresses
Released: 2008; Cast: Katherine Heigl, James Marsden
27 Dresses starring Katherine Heigl and James Marsden is as typical and cliché as any slumber party movie. It’s a cute story about Jane, a bridal attendant who’s taken back by surprise when her younger sister announces her engagement to George who is not only her boss but also the man she’s secretly in love with.
7. Just My Luck
Released: 2006; Cast: Lindsay Lohan, Chris Pine
This funny and sweet chick flick stars Lindsay Lohan and Chris Pine as leads. Ashley, a successful and very lucky woman and Jake, a clumsy and unlucky young man meet by chance at a party and share a kiss, as a result of which their fortune and misfortune gets miraculously swapped. Hilarious and entertaining, it’s a must watch!
8. Leap Year
Released: 2010; Cast: Matthew Goode, Amy Adams
Besides being one of the best sleepover movies and my favorite chick flick of all time, this film is one you can watch time and again. It is based off an old Irish folklore tradition where a woman can propose to a man on a leap day. It’s quite a predictable movie but it will definitely make you go ‘aww!’
9. The Princess Diaries
Released: 2001; Cast: Julie Andrews, Anne Hathaway
Mia, an average high school teen’s world is turned upside down after she learns that she is a princess and the heir to the throne of Genovia on her 16th birthday. This is yet another chick-flick with the typical ugly-duck-turns-into-swan concept. I also recommend the sequel which stars Chris Pine!
10. Mean Girls
Released: 2004; Cast: Lindsay Lohan, Amanda Seyfried, Rachel McAdams
This popular movie starring Lindsay Lohan needs no description. Pretty much every girl on this planet has watched it at some point. All about the drama and struggles that come with being a fresher in high school, it’s one of those movies you can simply watch over and over again! It follows Cady, the new girl in a school that’s run by Regina and her sidekicks or “The Plastics” as they’re called. Cady finds herself falling into a love triangle with Regina George and her ex and struggles to figure out who her real friends are. Between the iconic Regina George phrases and witty humor, there are so many reasons to watch this movie!
11. 500 Days of Summer
Released: 2009; Cast: Zooey Deschanel, Joseph Gordon-Levitt
This movie isn’t as popular as some of the others on this list and it makes me wonder why! It’s quirky, charming, unique and not a typical chick flick about a woman who doesn’t believe in the concept of true and love and a man who falls in love with her. A must-watch for anyone that’s into non-cheesy rom-coms!
12. No Reservations
Released: 2007; Cast: Aaron Eckhart, Catherine Zeta-Jones
Warning: This movie will make you hungry so make sure to fill up those popcorn tubs! The plot is based on Kate, a perfectionist master chef at a restaurant, who struggles with life after learning she’s the guardian of her late sister’s daughter. One day, Nick, a high-spirited young man and the complete opposite of Kate joins the kitchen as a sous chef. What the three don’t know is they need each other more than they realize.
13. Breakfast at Tiffany’s
Released: 1961; Cast: Audrey Hepburn, George Peppard
If you don’t know who Holly Golightly is, you aren’t a true chick flick fan. This movie is a timeless classic Hollywood film that anyone, despite their age, will enjoy. It’s basically about a New York socialite and a writer who become smitten with each other. But falling in love is easier said than done. Also, It’s no secret that Holly’s iconic black Givenchy gown is still being talked about, decades later. A complete fashion line could be created after Holly’s personal style. And her song ‘Moon River’ is very hummable too!
14. Dirty Dancing
Released: 1987; Cast: Patrick Swayze, Jennifer Grey
With Patrick Swayze looking ever so hot and his amazing dancing skills, this movie is a must watch! While vacationing with her family at Kellerman’s resort, Frances, a 17 year old girl falls in love with the resort’s dance instructor which her father is not too happy about. Great actors, great music, great dancing and great plot, this movie’s got it all!
15. You Again

Years later, she’s risen above all the torment and bullying and has a successful career and life seems perfect until she learns her brother is marrying the girl who ruined high school for her. It’s quite rare to find a chick flick that doesn’t focus on the lead actor and their love interest. This is one such movie and it also has a lot of LOL moments.
16. What Happens in Vegas
Released: 2008; Cast: Cameron Diaz, Ashton Kutcher
After a wild night of partying and drinking in Vegas, two strangers, Jack and Joy accidentally end up getting married. They go to court in order to file for a divorce but due to legal reasons, they are required to live together as a couple for a certain amount of time. 17. Confessions of a Shopaholic

Rebecca Bloomwood is a girl with an extreme shopping addiction, so much so that she’s knee deep in debt. She lands an ironic job as a financial journalist. From hot bosses to exotic vacations, this movie has everything you would expect from a chick flick. I absolutely loved Rebecca’s vibrant and relatable character played by Isla Fisher. This movie is also a film adaptation of the book series, Shopaholic, by Sophie Kinsella. Someone please make a sequel to it already!
18. Eat Pray Love

Based on the inspiring and motivational book by Elizabeth Gilbert, this film is about a woman who is not very content with her life even though she has everything she could ever want. So, she decides to leave her old life behind and sets out on a spiritual journey to 3 different countries to experience 3 different cultures and in the process, finding her true self. Be prepared to want to travel and crave some Italian food after watching this movie. It’s a must-watch for anyone who loves solo-travelling.

You could watch this movie over a hundred times and still not get bored of it!

Clueless is a good sleepover movie to watch for anyone that’s into 90’s fashion. This extremely popular chick flick stars Alicia Silverstone as Cher, a rich and materialistic teen who learns what’s really important in life. It deals with subjects like family, friends and romance. This movie is also known as one of the best fashion movies ever made and rightfully so! It’s worth watching just for the super stylish outfits.
