Hey beautiful! As we’re approaching the fall season in a few months, it’s the perfect time to know the latest styles in sweaters. Sweaters are cozy and warm but they don’t have to be always plain and boring or a basic knitwear only. We saw around 100+ fashion shows for the Fall-Winter 2018 season. And we were amazed by the different fashion sweaters in the designer collections.
Fall Winter 2018 Fashion Sweaters
I’m a sweater person! In fact, I love layering even in summers, too. From trying new styles to setting a trend of my own, I’m all for sweaters. After going through each image of models wearing sweaters for hours together, we finalized top 11 sweater styles for 2018. I’m way too excited to share these new trends with you. So, let’s dive in and check ’em out!
1. Oversized Sweaters
Designers are in for slouchy fashion, eh!? It was like oversized sweaters were showering on the runways. From extra long sweaters to extra long sleeves to slouchy to super oversized, baggy fashion is very much in. Try patterned, text and sweaters with hardware details. Also, go for different syles like turtlenecks, off-the-shoulder and cropped ones. Personally, I loved the half tucked-in style by Prabal Gurung – totally eye-catching.
2. Tucked-In Style
Well, our editor-in-chief, Shilpa Ahuja included this style in her Fall 2018 fashion trends forecast report. When I read it, I was in all awe of this trend and I put in extra effort to look for all the styles. And here we are tucking sweaters into jeans, skirts and trousers are definitely headturners. Pair them with loose fitted bottoms to make a statement.

3. Surface Work
See, I told you sweaters need not be boring. Sweaters with surface work made it to the top 3 of this list. Embellishments, patchwork, appliqué styles were drool-worthy in the FW18 runways! Wear them with a plain outfit or create a statement by pairing with printed dresses.
4. Lamé
Shimmery knits are known as lamé. Okay! Well, we’re working on our SlubWords fashion glossary and I have become too particular about the phrases I use. Lol! So, the word lamé may sound funny but the sweaters on the runways surely stole the show! Try off-the-shoulder, cropped, turtleneck, oversized, peplum and pair them with skirts for a perfect party outfit.
5. Layered
Layered sweaters are one of the newest trends in the Fall Winter 2018 collections. We use sweaters to layer our outfits but this year we’re seeing this cool trend where the sweater itself is layered. From attached blanket scarf to asymmetric layering to tulle over-layers, this style is quite a thing. If you’re like me who loves to layer, these kinda styles’ll be perfect additions to your closet! Now if only someone could gift them to us before it’s fall!
6. Half Sleeved Sweaters
Well, designers are still vouching for half sleeved sweaters. We saw them last year, too! But this year both half sleeves and sleeveless sweaters are trending. Try sleeveless, cap sleeved or elbow length sleeves. These sweaters are perfect for the transition season to welcome the cool weather.
7. Bishop Sleeves
Bishop sleeves add a feminine touch to your look. These sleeves poof up from shoulders and are well fitted at the end. Pair them with skirts, matching pants or a printed skirt for that girly vibe. BTW, bishop sleeves are a pre-renaissance style, which we’re seeing in dresses and tops, too.
8. Shoulder Pads
Shoulder pads have invaded the sweaters, too! Why? Just why? I know a lot of you may be in awe of this trend but personally, I feel it’s too dramatic and should be limited to disco costumes only. But thankfully, designers have kept it simple and clean with plain sweaters. Try tucked in, layered or double colored sweaters.
9. Cropped Sweater
Cropped style has become too common now. We have seen cropped sweaters for over 2 years now and they’re almost like a must-have at this point. This Fall 2018, slouchy turtlenecks, layered, cardigans, super cropped sweater and appliquéd sweaters are trending.
10. Fuzzy Wool Sweaters
Fuzzy wool for winter sounds perfect. Wear these classic sweaters tucked into your jeans or pair them with pencil and high waist skirts for a striking office outfit.
11. Cut Outs
Cut outs in fashion sweaters may sound useless unless worn on bare body or sleeveless tops. But you can try them wearing on skintight sheer tops to stand out. We saw small and oversized cut-outs on chest, waist, sleeves and all over the body.
So, these were the top 11 fashion sweaters from the Fall Winter 2018 collections. Which trend did you like the most? I’m gonna sport tucked in style this winter, if I lose my tummy fat! Sigh! I’m working on it, I swear. Lol! Share your thoughts by tweeting at @shilpa1ahuja!
