Hey gorgeous! 2019 has barely started but were already seeing soooo much in fashion, especially on Instagram. It seems the Indian fashion designers have finally caught up with social media. Usually, to analyze our fashion trend forecasts, we look at the runway collections. However, this year, I was even more inclined to find out what the Bollywood celebrities are wearing when researching for this article.

Fashion Saree Trends for 2019

All in all, the fashion saree trends for 2019 are not only about being bold and ostentatious. We’re seeing a lot of emphasis on elegance and subtle style. Even the wedding and party sarees aren’t all-over-embellished or bling-y. It’s all about choosing the right silhouette, fabric and color. And blouse!

So, let’s dive right in to check out the top 11 saree designs for this year!

1. Belted Structure

Belts are #1 among the fashion saree trends for 2019. All the top designers are coming up with belted sarees. In fact, we’ve even seen the belt trend in lehengas, even in bridal ensembles. Go for skinny or medium belts. Match them to your saree or rock an embellished belt to match the work on your saree. Wear the belt exactly where your saree’s petticoat starts. Or rock them just at the nip of your waist, without tucking your pallu in! This style is a great idea for cocktail parties or formal galas.

2. Concept Sarees

Concept or pre-draped sarees, a.k.a. saree-gowns are still very trendy. We’re seeing all the celebs like Shilpa Shetty, Malaika Arora, Sara Ali Khan, Sonam Kapoor and more rocking chic concept sarees. Either go for a pre-draped saree with statement pallu and off-the-sholder blouse. Or try a dhoti-style saree with slit. Alternatively, rock a caped or lehenga-saree to your BFF’s wedding! This trend is also perfect for your wedding sangeet or roka ceremony.

3. Soft Pastels

Pastels are ruling 2018, both in sarees and lehengas. So, if you’re shopping for your next saree, go for the softest shades like nude blush, biscuit, eggshell, dove grey, baby blue or petal pink. Well, beautiful soft pastels give a very romantic feel to the whole look, so these sarees are perfect for an engagement party or outdoor garden wedding.

4. It’s All in the Blouse

Statement blouses are one of the hottest fashion saree trends for 2019. Nearly all the major designers have plain sarees paired with statement blouses in their latest collections. Go for full-sleeved Rajasthani-inspired choli, or a chic long jacket a la Katrina Kaif. Alternatively, rock an off-shoulder blouse with fringes to bring out your inner fashion rebel!

5. High Necklines

If wearing off-the-shoulder blouses is not your thing, a conservative blouse style is also very in these days. High necklines are making a real statement in saree blouses, and we’re seeing them in collections of Sabyasachi, Shantanu & Nikhil, Shyamal & Bhumika & more. To give an royal, Indian princess look, wear a full-sleeved blouse with a neckline that goes up to your collarbone. Then pair it with a choker-collar necklace that comes down to the collar. Or add a set of long stone necklaces.

6. Crystal on Tulle

Embellished lace and tulle are one of the top fashion saree trends for 2019. We’re seeing all the celebs like Jacqueline Fernandez, Anushka Sharma, Madhuri Dixit and many more rocking pretty net sarees with crystal work. Go for soft pastel sarees in embellished tulle, and pair them with a matching blouse that also has crystal embellishments to get ake a selfie-ready look! This style is a great option for your brother’s engagement, or a wedding cocktail.

7. Appliquéd Net

If you want a saree that people remember for ages, this is the style for you. Personally, floral appliqués are one of my favorite fashion saree trends for 2019, since bunched roses make a beautiful statement, yet look bold. The designer wedding saree collections of some of the top designers like Manish Malhotra, Falguni Shane Peacock and Shyamal & Bhumika are all about appliqué love. I’m in love with the Manish Malhotra white saree with appliquéd jaali-work. Also, it’s the perfect trend to wear to your engagement or your cousin’s reception.

8. Diamond Pattern

Forget polka dots and floral self-motifs! 2019 is all about the return of the diamond pattern from our mom’s youth! Honestly, I’m not a big fan of patterned sarees and diamond design is not appealing to me. However, we are seeing celebs like Deepika Padukone and Jahnvi Kapoor wearing this trend in a chic way, since many designers like Sabysachi, Manish Malhotra and Anita Dongre are coming up with it.

9. Rich Velvet

Velvet is something that can give a heavy, rich look to an outfit without any embellishments or embroidery. So many Bollywood beauties like Kajol, Sonal Kapoor, Anushka and Priyanka Chopra rocked velvet saree this season that I lost count. In velvet, deep colors are very in, such as burgundy, royal blue, ruby and midnight blue. Full velvet sarees are a great way to make a statement, or go for a plain saree with velvet pallu. Or a velvet blouse. But if you don’t want too much velvet, go for a saree with velvet appliqué work or border.

10. Contemporary Prints

Modern prints have never gone out of fashion since the late 90s. And they’re making an ever bigger comeback this year. Go for bold, large prints to make a statement at your kitty parties or office parties. Rohit Bal introduced a lovely flamingo print in his sarees. Additionally, Sabyasachi dressed Karishma Kapoor in a beautiful yellow belted saree with large, modern floral print. Also, we’re seeing geometric prints, birds, large lotuses and what not. So take your pick!

11. Thin Borders

Big, broad borders are so 2014 and so out! This year, it’s back to thin and narrow borders on plain and printed sarees. We’re seeing both plain and embellished borders, both matching and contrasting.

So I hope you found my forecast for fashion saree trends for 2019 helpful. Which trend is your favorite and least favorite this year? Lemme know below! Also, I’d love to see your saree looks if you try one of these saree designs, so do tag me in your pic on Instagram @shilpaahujadotcom!
