Fashion Color Trends for Fall Winter 2019 Every Girl Needs to Know

This season will be one of brights, primary colors and classic winter colors. We saw deep shades inspired by semi-precious stones. We also saw a couple of pastels and neutrals. Overall, everyone’s favorites this year are black and white. Let’s check them all out!

1. Black

(L to R): Chanel, Dior, Elie Saab, Valentino, Saint Laurent

I always have one rule for all the fashion trend forecasts we do here at ShilpaAhuja.com – a trend needs to be something that can also go “out of fashion”. Otherwise it’s not a trend. But I’m having to break my own rule here. Black isn’t really something that can ever go out of fashion as a color. But this year, black was so exceptionally omnipresent in the Fall-Winter runways, that I had to include it as a color “trend”.

Some of the designers had whole black collections, like Jeremy Scott and many had black as a primary color, like Balmain. Other than black, designers also played on white, and we also saw black +white looks. No matter what anyone else says, black is definitely the new black this year and the next. It’s the #1 among the latest fashion color trends. So make sure you don’t stop wearing your beautiful blacks this winter!

2. Lapis Lazuli

(L to R): Versace, Gucci. Elie Saab, Givenchy, Alexander McQueen

Blue is my favorite color, precisely because of shades like this. From pastels to brights, blue is beautiful anywhere. This season, lapis-lazuli is designers’ hot favorite, and one of the top fashion color trends to have in your wardrobe. It’s the shade between sky blue and royal blue. We also saw shades like sapphire, deep royal blue, and dark sky blue.

You can wear lapis lazuli in so many ways. Go for a pair of bright boots in this shade. Or try a pant-suit, paired with matching pumps. Or wear a hair accessory in this color with your black or white coat.Or pair a blue sweater with your black leather skirt and tights. You can also create a contrast with lapis blue and caramel brown.

3. Forest Green

(L to R): Valentino, Oscar de la Renta, Balenciaga, Dior, Elie Saab

Forest green is one of the classic winter colors. And just like the Christmas tree, this year, you can drape yourself with this color. We saw looks that were head-to-toe in forest green. You can try a pant-suit, jumpsuit or even a gown in this lovely green shade. Or you can pair it with pastel green or black to create sophisticated color palettes for your outfits.

4. Garnet

(L to R): Oscar de la Renta, Elie Saab, Dior, Ralph Lauren, Zuhair Murad

While red is an evergreen shade, in winters, red becomes an important part of every wardrobe. We’ve seen shades like scarlet, tulip red and wine in the previous seasons. This season, it is the turn for pomegranate and garnet to be among the latest fashion color trends. Garnet is a shade somewhere between wine and ruby.

This warm shade is perfect for the holiday season. Pair a garnet-colored skirt with your lace black top for a Christmas party. Or go for a garnet-shaded gown for New Year’s eve. Or wear a garnet skirt with white cashmere blouse to your office party. If you’re not for the reds, you can also try just a pair of shoes or jewelry in this shade to wear with your black dress.

5. Biscuit

(L to R): Chanel, Fendi, Givenchy, Max Mara, Tibi

Nude shades have been dominating both the runway fashion and Instagram style sections for the past few seasons. But this year, I was pleasantly surprised to see a different neutral shade as one of the fashion color trends. Biscuit and camel colors are very popular this fall/winter season, and will be a great addition to any wardrobe.

Also go for shades like caramel, cookie and tawny. Browns are a great way to do monochromatic looks, and you can easily wear shades of it head-to-toe. However, you can also pair biscuit with other colors like white, cream, burgundy, black and nude. Go for a biscuit-colored coat, or sweater-dress. Or use it in pants and combine it with a jacket in a ligher shade of the same color.

6. Magenta

(L to R): Chanel, Versace, Alexander McQueen, Dolce & Gabbana, Roberto Cavalli

Pinks are very big this fall. It’s looking like a floral season as far as pinks are concerned. Magenta is something a lot of designers are agreeing upon. Both warm and cool shades of magenta are the fashion color trends on the runways. Also try shades like fuchsia, punch and hot pink.

Magenta is too bright a color to wear head-to-toe, so it would be a great idea to use it as a pop of color in a black outfit. Or wear magenta tights or booties with a black outfit. A magenta sweater would look great peeking from inside a black leather jacket this fall. Or brighten up a winter day by wearing a magenta sweater dress under your black wool coat. You can also take inspiration from the ready-to-wear runways and combine it with other colors like royal blue or plum.

7. Khaki

(L to R): Prada, Hermes, Loewe, Isabel Marant, M. Missoni

Glad to see this simple, neutral color make its way to the cold season. We saw all sorts of khaki shades, ranging from olive to seaweed to army. Khaki would be a great way to create simple everyday looks. So get yourself a pair of khaki wool trousers, a khaki sweater-dress or sweater if you haven’t already. You can, of course, try camo too. Or you can use khaki as a base in your outfit to add other bright colors like turquoise or red with accessories.

8. Blush

(L to R): Valentino, Versace, Alberta Ferretti, Ferragamo, Tom Ford

As I mentioned before, pinks are big this year. Blush is the second pink shade we’re seeing a lot on the runways for Fall/Winter 2019-2020. Both rose and blush are trending colors in fashion. We also saw similar shades like lilac, lemonade and crepe.

Blush is a really pretty winter shade to wear in sweaters with denims, or as an overcoat to pair with a grey work-wear outfit. You can also pair blush with unexpected colors like yellow or red this year, as we saw in the fashion weeks.
