The show opened with black dresses of all shapes – minis, LBD’s, slips and short sets that are reminiscent of D&G collections of seasons past! And then moved on to more heavily embellished and adorned looks.
Like always, the Dolce & Gabbana Spring 2018 collection also featured the wildest prints like biscuits, cupid babies, goldfish and zebra. Also, there were vegetable prints such as carrots, turnips, peas and lemons. The color palette included almost every color you can think of. Pastels, nudes, metallics, neutrals – you name it! But black, white and red were the most prominent.
Appliqué, sheer and lace dresses were a recurring element. These looks were accessorized with embellished headbands, crowns, badges, card and vegetable shaped jewelry and quirky eyewear. These were by far my favorite part of the collection.
Popular silhouettes included shift dresses, cigarette pants and midi length dresses. Another memorable element from the collection was the surface embellishments, which consisted of lacing, appliqué, sequins, tassels and fringes.
The finale look was a maxi dress with queen of hearts print and accessorized with a matching three-dimensional fascinator. The most unique part of the collection was the tote bags filled with veggies that we were hoping were novelty bags shaped like grocery bags. But, turns out they’re very much real!
Once again, Dolce and Gabbana let their imagination dictate the rules, not wearablity. The looks may be a little too much to wear as an ensemble unless you’re on the red carpet. But they’d make undeniable statements (albeit sometimes crazy) if worn as separates.
