DIOR_SPRING-SUMMER_2020_SS20 RTW (86)Spring make you think of flowers? Well think bigger this season. A hundred and seventy fully-grown trees of different species from around the world, planted in rows, forming a beautiful foggy foliage fest. This was the stage that made up Dior Spring Summer 2020 fashion show’s runway.

Inspired by the photographs of Miss Dior in gardens surrounded by trees, this Spring collection is all about gardening in today’s era. Catharine Dior was Christian Dior’s sister, who loved gardening.

Independent and determined, Miss Dior was a woman of inspiring character and the inspiration of the house’s iconic perfume, which is still the epitome of floral romance.

Through this inspiration and this collection, Maria Grazia Chiuri is starting a conversation about what caring for vegetation means in today’s tech age. Can the human-nature balance be re-established again?

Planting trees of various origins from around the world, collaborating with landscape artists, Chiuri imagined sort of an “inclusive garden”. Weaving the story of urban and natural landscape through fashion, this collection strives to inspire everyone to contribute to the preservation of nature, no matter where they are.

Comfortable and simple silhouettes in an earthy color palette, the clothes seemed as much a part of the nature as the setting. Not in a safari way, but in a Maria Grazia’s Dior way. Appliqued sheer skirts, button-up shirts, long dresses, jumpsuits and even rompers, the outfits were very Gen Z/young millennial.

We saw practical colors like sky blue, beige, sand, eggshell and olive green. Rope belts, straw hats, jade chokers, jute slippers and woven bracelets were included.

The prints and textures were my favorite part of the collection. Tree prints, houndstooth, floral threadwork, crochets and tie-dye were seen. One of my favorite pieces was this forest green fringe coat – very grassy and foliage-y.

And another look I found interesting was a straw fringe dress that gave a very weird yet unique look – something that sort of tells a story.
