This theme also takes its inspiration in the house of Dior’s heritage, as rock paintings and natural wilderness has been Christian Dior’s inspiration, too, for his Ovale line. As it is mentioned in the fashion show description, Dr. Clarissa Pinkola Estés’s book “Women who run with the wolves”, was one of his favorite books, and this title describes this collection well.

At a first glance, there are so many things we remember when we take a look at this collection – images coming to mind. But it still seemed so different than anything we’ve seen at Dior for the past, I don’t know how many years! Familiar yet fresh.

Hats were the first thing to be noticed – they accompanied every look, plain as well as those with animal motifs – which were the second thing to notice. Patterns stole the show – paintings of oxen, deer and horses were seen on dresses, outerwear and accessories, even pants. Art, plaids and stripes were seen too.

Other accessories were just as noticeable – skinny belts with long tails, chain chokers with long necklaces, cross-body bags and clutches. Silhouettes included maxi dresses, midi skirts, safari suits, crop pants and some mini dresses. Lots of outerwear – fur coats, ponchos, jackets, et al. Strappy dresses and sheer skirts reminiscent of Maria Grazia Chiuri’s recent Dior collections were present, which made it all very feminine. And that’s when I remembered what Dior Cruise 2018 collection mostly reminded me of – Valentino Resort 2016, which of course, Maria Grazia Chiuri designed with Pierpaolo Piccioli for Valentino. Guess it’s familiar for a reason, then?

The beauty look was as appropriate to the theme as the flat slip-ons – unkempy waves that tied into a braid at the back. My favorite look was undoubtedly this fringed white dress, plus I loved those bold animal motifs:
