Discover my red cocktail dress outfit for some style inspiration for your next date or friend’s wedding! Accessorized simply, a red dress can do wonders!
Red stands for so much – passion, love, hatred, desire and even rage. This year for women’s march, women chose to wear red to stand united. But red, when used for style, can really make you stand out, feel confident and if styled right, feel sexy! I’ve already written about how to choose the perfect shade of red according to your skin tone, and how to accessorize a red dress, but here I just wanted to share my own red cocktail dress look!
This day look in a red cocktail dress outfit is perfect for a fancy garden date, a pre-wedding photo-shoot or for your friend’s wedding.
So I chose this beautiful knee-length dress for myself, and here’s how I went about choosing and accessorizing it. I wanted to choose it for a daytime photo-shoot with the theme ‘Romance’. It called for a romantic feminine dress that accentuated my body. So I chose a knee-length dress with feminine falls in a light weight fabric. I chose a bright crimson red to complement my skin tone. My body type is skinny, so I chose this dress that has stripey bottom, and it makes my hips appear bigger, and also the top has a fuller appearance with the cowl neck, so that adds volume to my chest, while still making my waist look thin. So it’s amazing that I don’t look too skinny in these pictures!
For styling this red cocktail dress, I kept the accessories minimal because it was a day shoot. I have a bracelet that matches the silver of the dress embellishments, and a crystal pendant that almost disappears on the neck. The make-up makes my eyes pop, and I chose pink lipstick so that my face doesn’t look too formal or red carpet-ey. The hair is straight and sightly wavy, almost natural, just to add to the romanticism.
