Wanna know what bags, shoes and earrings to add to your wardrobe in 2020?Here are the TOP 7 Indian accessory trends every girl needs to try.
Hey gorgeous! The year 2020 may be engulfed in the Coronavirus pandemic, but can that stop us from lovin’ and adorin’ fashion? No! Can anything stop us? Perhaps not! We know how hard the fashion industry has been hit by the economy, but for us fashionistas, whether or not we can actually shop ’em, we gotz to know about the latest fashion trends even with many less parties to attend and no place to go to. After all, fashion ain’t just about wearing it, but also about being socially, culturally and aesthetically aware.
7 Indian Accessory Trends 2020
So anyway, as per uzhe, I went through the 2020’s latest designer collections, Bollywood celeb style and newest Instagram feeds of the top Indian fashion designers. And then I rounded up the 7 latest Indian accessory trends for 2020 that you gotta know about.
Whether you’re revenge shopping, attending video farewell parties or e-shadis, this list of Indian accessory trends will update you about the chicest jewelry, shoes, bags and everything your closet needs this year! Let’s go!
1. Choker
Hardly anything new in the Indian fashion scene at this point, chokers are still trendy as they were last year (or last to last). In fact, they’re the biggest in our list of Indian accessory trends. Now we’re seeing designers and Bollywood celebrities pairing all sorts of chokers with their Indian dresses. From beads to precious stones, it’s all trendy. The most fashionable chokers include wide ones that nearly cover the whole neck, with drop stones at the bottom. Pair them with your lehengas and shararas and match them with the color of your dress.
We’re also loving multicolor chokers that can go with either different dresses or multicolor sarees. And of course, you can even wear one in a contrasting shade and match it with your lipstick!
If you’re not in the mood for something too desi, go for western or Indo-western designs that’ll work both with western dresses or Indo-western outfits. We’re seeing so much of this trend, especially in Indian designers’ Instagram feeds and Bollywood ladies’ style.
Chokers are one trend every Indian fashionista is gonna be wearing in 2020, and possibly beyond.
2. Headpiece
Headpieces or heavy hair accessories are back and I’m all for this trend. We’ve already seen many showy head-pieces in western fashion since 2017, but yet they haven’t made it to mainstream Indian fashion up until 2020. But now is the time to really embrace this style, as hair accessories are one of the top Indian accessory trends.
We’re seeing so many different designs in this trend. The chicest hair accessories are easiest to pair with your lehengas – metallic multi-chain hair accessories or head bands. The perfect mix of boho and Indian goddess, they are very wearable.
We’re also seeing some other types of hair accessories – like the traditional maang-teeka that’s no longer reserved just for the brides. Plus you can mix and match two metallic headbands – one around your bun and another over your head. Next, we’re seeing the Carrie Bradshaw-esque bird and feather type hair pins which you can match with your lehenga.
And finally, there are the unique types of headdresses and hair accessories that will make any outfit shine. Designers are coming up with so many different hair accessory styles this year. Chain wraparounds for your fancy braids, embellished metallic headbands, and multi-chain headdresses are a few examples that we saw on the runways. Total statement makers, they’d be great for pictures, too.
This design in the bridal Indian dresses is so romantic and bold that we can’t get enough of this trend. I already love pairing fascinators with my Indian gowns and lehengas, but I’d love to try headdresses and stacked headbands, too.
3. Bucket Bag
Back with a bang, again the bucket bag is not new in the world of fashion – but here we are again. And before you think of bringing your old beaded bucket bag out from the hidden depths of your closet, designers remind you that no, they’re here so that you feel like shopping again. After all, fashion is nothing if not novelty (and consumerism).
The top styles we’re seeing in Indian accessory trends for 2020 are velvet and patent leather bucket bags without any embroidery or surface work. Honestly, I’m all for this new Indo-western trend. In fact, these bags will go well with western outfits too.
If you’re looking for something more embellished for your bridal trousseau or a wedding, I’d recommend one with sequin work in nice rose gold or peachy pink tones. Dull metallics are one of the top fashion trends of 2020.
From sarees to lehengas to gowns to suits, bucket bags are paired with everything in the Indian designers’ fashion collections in 2020.
4. Boots
Gone are the days when we needed to pair Indian wear dresses with just limited traditional designs of shoes and jewelry. Now mixing and matching Indian and western is not only fair game but also very trendy. While I’ve paired western accessories like fascinators and sunglasses with my desi ethnic dresses many years ago, I’ve never tried the lehenga-boot pairing. And now it’s time!
We’re seeing designers making a case for extremely chic Indo-western boots and booties. They’d be totally impractical in the Indian summer heat, but they’d work for winter weddings or colder regions. Personally, I’m totally loving the embellished silver high-heeled booties by Falguni Shane. Next up is the pair of boots with multicolored threadwork by Sabyasachi.
However, personally, boots are not one of my favorite Indian accessory trends for 2020, because I think they could get a bit uncomfortable (and sweaty) in the Indian weather of most of the country. Plus, boots are more expensive than regular shoes or stilettos, making them a bigger investment. And given the amount of times we wear one ethnic outfit (one to two at most) and the lack of occasions to wear them to, especially this year. they’d make a bad investment. Particularly because shoes go bad within a year or two even if not worn frequently.
5. Larger-than-Life Earrings
Wanna know what the latest Indian fashion earring trends are in 2020? Here it is – extra long (and big) traditional earrings that’ll kiss your collar-bone and will refuse to go unnoticed. Forget ear jackets and tiny studs. this year is all about the extra-big earrings! As far as earrings are concerned, in 2020, the mantra is go bold or go home.
For everyday Indian wear, kitty parties and family functions, the best idea is to try large traditional jhumki earrings with half-moon filigree or metallic fringes. For wedding functions or your roka ceremony, you can go for something more statement-y like over-sized and multi-layered jhumkas that go down to your chest. Beware – they’re heavy and super uncomfortable.
6. Loafers
Behold all desi fashionistas – 2020 is finally the time to ditch those “sandals” and high heels and wear what you please. Bye-bye uncomfy and shiny stilettos. Hello, androgynous shoes that blur the gendered fashion boundaries.
High heels are hot and trendy as ever. But modern Indian fashion is not about compromising practicality for style. In fact, it’s about embracing your inner personality, and how you personally feel fashion should be. That’s why loafers are one of the chicest styles in our Indian accessory trends forecast 2020. Pair them with your salwar suits, gararas or even long skirts.
If you’re bold enough to go for loafers with ethnic dresses, then try a pair of flat and embellished sandals that make a statement.
7. Stacked Bangles
No Indian woman’s dresser is ever complete without some beautiful bangle sets and cuffs. Wondering what is India’s most fashionable style of bangles right now? Embellished, multi-color wrapped or stacked bangles are making waves in designer collections this year, and are one of the hottest, latest Indian accessory trends.
Tired of wearing boring traditional thin bangle sets? Worry not, you can try one big bangle that wraps around your wrist making an Indo-western statement. Or create a set of extravagant kadas or traditional gold bangles, which would adorn a plain outfit perfectly.
These stacked bangles look very chic and so elegant. You can even wear them one at a time instead of wearing them in a set. They’re perfect for girls who, like me, prefer just one bold piece of jewelry rather than piling on many small tiny pieces of bling.
