Cocktail Dress Styles from FW17 Couture Collections
1. Exaggerated Shoulders
There’s so much happening with the shoulders in latest cocktail dresses. There were shoulder pads, elongated, three-dimensional ruffled and quilted puffy shoulders. They add the drama and give you the feeling of a cover girl for cocktail dresses!
2. Thread Fringes
Boho inspired fringes are out. Fringes are stunning and beautiful this year and we’re seeing thread fringes in the cocktail dress styles for FW17. They add dynamism and elegance to the outfit and look super classy. We saw cocktail evening dresses with long and layered thread fringes. I loved the Ralph & Russo fringe and feather layered mini cocktail dress.
3. Sheer Panels
Sheer dresses have been a popular trend for the last few seasons but sheer panels are going to be making waves this winter in cocktail dress styles for 2017! We saw sheer top panels and on sides in cocktail evening dresses styles. We also saw sheer dresses layered with fringes, bodycon dresses and feathers that gave an impression of sheer panels. So this season, we don’t need to worry about what to wear under the sheer dresses!
4. Dresses with Draped Scarf
Here’s a new trend we’re seeing this year. A scarf is draped or attached to the evening dresses to create a statement. We saw them attached in cocktail dresses as appliquéd ponchos in Fendi, a long fabric extended from the top of the dress in Jean Paul Gaultier and draped around the shoulder in Ralph & Russo.
5. Feathers
Fur details for winter are nothing new. But many designers are experimenting with feathers this year, and we’re loving this trend in cocktail dresses. We saw feathers on the hemlines, skirt and layered all over the dresses in cocktail dress styles for 2017.
6. Waist Capes
Waist capes are one of my favorite trends in latest cocktail dresses from FW17 couture collections. Waist capes are long floor-touching trains attached from the waist. They are also called ‘butt capes’ and Shilpa hates the phrase, so we’re trying to make waist capes a thing! We saw them in the collections of Elie Saab, Zuhair Murad and many more. They are eye catching! Waist capes have already been seen in gowns in the past few seasons, but this year we’re seeing them in mini and midi dresses, too!
7. Ruffles
Ruffles are a big trend this year as we saw them in designer collections of Chanel, Versace, Valentino and many more. Ruffled dresses were a trend in Fall 2017 ready-to-wear collections, too. This year, we saw them on the sleeves, hemlines and all over the dresses in cocktail dress styles for 2017. I loved the blue layered ruffled dress by Zuhair Murad.
8. Appliqué
Applliqué is very much in! And we saw them in many designer collections of Chanel, Fendi and many more in latest cocktail dresses. We saw floral appliqué on the hemline and all over the dress. We also saw cocktail evening dresses with ruffled appliqué by Schiaparelli and feather appliqué by Ralph & Russo.
9. Matching Capes & Ponchos
Capes and ponchos are not a new trend, but still going strong. This year, we’re seeing matching ponchos and capes in mini, midi and maxi dresses. I loved the appliquéd poncho by Fendi in latest cocktail dresses.
These were our trend list of cocktail dress styles. Which trend did you like the most? I loved feather detail dresses. Which is your favorite?
