From poofy gowns to mini-dresses to the signature tweed skirt-suits inspired by Coco Chanel herself, here’s the looks from Chanel Haute Couture SS17 show!
Review | Collection
The collection had a lot of spring and garden inspired bits. But instead of focusing on the nature’s rawness, this collection was about polished glamour. The show brought spring indoors – with a mirror-tiled runway, vases of flowers and a soft pastel color palette of pale green, purple, sky blue, peach, cream and pink.
The show started with power dressing, sometimes with matching hats reminding me of Coco Chanel. Tweed skirt suits with broad metallic belts were paired with pussybows and tightly tied hair, channeling a formal look. Belted dresses, pants and midi-skirts were also seen. The gold of the belts was paired with silver of the pumps, with single anklets added to them as the only trinket.
But instead of focusing on the nature’s rawness, this collection was about polished glamour.
The show soon moved on to cocktail evening dresses, paired with knee-high boots or even pants. Some of the looks were a how to in how to wear pants with a dress: It has to be a slit dress where the slit goes up above the waist. Or it has to be a sheer dress. In which case you wear matching sheer pants. Let them be embroidered while you’re at it.
Textures were mixed and matched for the evening gowns – sequins and feathers with tweed, satin or tulle. Belts were added to give structure even to gowns. Some of the boots were sequined too. Â Ruffles and layers were added to the poofier, wedding-y gowns. The finale gown was a baby pink one with a long train and ruffles all over – almost like a cupcake. Om-nom-nom.
