Chinese brand Bailuyu presented a collection was titled ‘Natural Harmony’ at NYFW SS20, as a part of Global Fashion Collective (GFC), which is a platform for international designers to showcase their work.

All white with some hints of moss green, the collection was minimal, with an air of spirituality. It drew inspiration from the ancient Chinese Confucian classic ‘Book of Rites – The Doctrine of the Mean’. According to the show notes, “tolerance and harmony underscored the intricate pieces.”

Creating lightness through color, the collection was a play in texture. A variety of fabrics built an interesting mix of different levels of translucence. The silhouettes were simple, including trousers, midi-dresses, high-low frocks, long skirts, shorts, hoodies and more.

Layering was an interesting part of many of the looks, where the outfits were wearable – pristine and airy. A long kimono was paired with sheer trousers (above-left). Flowing “front-cape” was covering a mini-dress (above). Sheer shorts were worn under a long top. A front-open over-skirt added dynamism to a simple midi-dress (below).

The looks used natural plant fiber fabric and plant dying techniques. With this collection that’s meant to be a “return to nature”, the designer hopes to make a connection between fashion, society and environment.
