Asa Kazingmei’s latest collection at Lakme Fashion Week was titled Reptonic, although I couldn’t connect the word to the theme, other than Repton, who was a landscape designer in the eighties (Google told me), and perhaps, its similarity to the word hypnotic. I may be far off, but one needs to interpret in her own way when an obvious connection isn’t there.

The collection was inspired by the surreality and magic of nature and its tiny details. Asa Kazingmei said about it, “The collection is inspired by Mother Nature. Her creatures exist in harmony and balance. I was drawn specially to the Iguana, both behaviorally and aesthetically.” The theme was apparent in the silhouettes and the color palette of earthy olive and forest greens, sea blues and browns. Here’s the showstopper gown on Mandana Karimi with three-dimensional elements brancing out from the torso up to the shoulders and through to the head.

The headdresses were as interesting – costume-like and edgy. The silhouettes included floor-touching gowns and sheer gowns in textured fabrics replete with off-shoulder detailing and cut-outs. Guaranteed to make a statement, my favorite looks were certainly the finale look – a textured sleeveless gown with a train (above), and a semi-sheer off-shoulder gown (below right).
