Hey gorgeous! Whether you actually need to carry something in the handbag or just want to show off the trendy ones you own, it’s impossible for women to step out without a handbag. From the cute mini backpacks to the huge laptop bags, we saw plenty of fresh styles in the handbags from the Spring Summer 2018 Ready-to-Wear collections. It was difficult for Shilpa and I to pick the trendiest of the trends as we spotted many of them.

So as always, all the trends went through the ranking system based on freshness, wearability, originality and our verdict of course. So, here are the top Spring 2018 handbag trends.

11 Spring 2018 Handbag Trends

1. Micro Bags

Whether you’re going to shop designer bags or not, you can’t not appreciate the minimalism of this trend! In Spring Summer 2018 collections, almost all design houses like Moschino, Valentino, Dior, Salvatore Ferragamo, Dolce & Gabbana, etc. couldn’t resist themselves from bringing back the micro bags. As predicted in the handbag trends for 2017 Fall collections, the trend of micro bag became a big hit this season. We’re saw sling, small handle and handheld micro bags in the SS18 collections.

2. Thin Bags

Go for the slimmest bags this season. The slimmer the trendier! This is one of the newest styles in trendy designer bags we spotted in the Spring 2018 collections. Thin bags are perfect for casual outings and dates when you want a sleek look. From sling to flap to fringed, all varieties of thin bags were seen. I loved the paper-thin pink one by Dolce & Gabbana which would enhance any party look.

3. Multi Strap Bags

Multi-straps are also one of the fresh trends we’re seeing in Spring Summer 2018 collections. The designers kept one of the straps embellished or different colored, making the bags look unique and trendy. The reason for multi-strap bags is a mystery to me because I don’t see how it’s practical. Waiting for the bags to hit the stores for the mystery to be solved!

4. Oversized Clutch

Ditch those tiny clutches. The oversized clutch is the new thing.  Both printed and plain ones are trendy. Go for the foot long ones or larger. From Alberta Ferretti to Prada to Chanel, designers are drooling over this trend. I’m loving the Roberto Cavalli one that matched with the print on the dress. So cool it is!

5. Sling Bag with Chain Strap

You may already own a sling bag but the ones with chain strap were runway favorites this season. Chain strap sling bags with a length of anywhere between hip to thighs are trendy. Opt either for leather, plain, iridescent, or printed ones!

6. Mini Backpacks

One of my favorite 2018 handbag trends it is. Aw! They are so cute to look at, especially the Moschino one! Backpacks have been a must-have accessory in 2017 as they are super comfortable to carry. We saw both normal sized and mini backpacks in Spring 2018 collections. Enhance your street style look, girls!

7. Laptop Bags

Great news! Your work bag no longer needs to be boring. And you don’t need to carry a laptop bag along with another bag. This season, designers have come up with ladies’ big bags that can accommodate the laptop and other handbag essentials too! Long elongated bags are what we saw in the SS18 collections. Go either for minimal prints or plain to get the sophisticated office look.

8. Bucket Bags

Bucket bags are back this season! We’re seeing bucket bags with long and short straps. Both party and casual ones were seen on the runways in the collections of Alexander Wang, Fendi, Chanel, etc. Plain, woven and sequined bucket bags are trendy. Personally, I  don’t like this trend because they look bulky and shapeless.

9. Double Bags

If you love designer handbags, why carry just one?! The trend of double bags is not fading away, so invest in this one! There’s a vast difference between the double bags we saw last season and the ones we’re seeing now. This season, we saw pairings like one clutch with a coin purse, double backpacks, tote with clutch and thin double bags.

10. Fringe Bags

Fringe handbags were the #1 trend in the handbag trends for Fall but this season they lost its place and are on #10. Nonetheless, here they are! Fringes all over the bags are completely out. We’re seeing tassels too. Fringes at the sides or bottom of the bags are trendy!

11. Transparent Bags

Here’s the coolest trend we’ve spotted in 2018’s designer shoes and handbags. Transparent accessories have been a big thing on the Spring 2018 runways. We saw transparent bags in the collections of Chanel, Fendi, Valentino, etc. From tote to structured to sling, go for the transparent ones!

What’s Out

  1. This season, it’s all about making a statement. Ditch those plain strapped plain bags immediately.
  2. Very large backpacks are paving the way for the smaller versions. Oversized backpacks are out!
  3. Denim and suede bags are also out. So sorry girls if you own either of them!
  4. Slim U-shaped clutches are a complete no no! Go for micro bags or oversized clutches instead.
