Miami! Why? Let me tell you why!

Miami is the ultimate destination for spring, getting away from the chilly winters and bathing in sunshine. With all its art galleries, artist studios, museums, music and art festivals, restaurants and shopping, there are plenty of things to do with your girlfriends and even all by yourself. Oh, and of course who doesn’t love that chance to wear sun-dresses and swim-wear after all the winter months! So a trip to Miami can be that chance! And did I mention this year Miami Beach is celebrating its 100 years? Need I mention more?

It’s been a while since I took my own trip to Miami, but it’s that time of the year again, and I can’t help but compile a list of what to do there this March to inspire you all.

Planning a Trip to Miami: Things to Do

Things to do in Miami – March, 2015

  • Music:

Ultra Music Festival is sort of a big annual outdoor party for 18 and over, bringing together huge crowds in Bayfont Park. This year the festival will be from March 27-29, 2015, and has a lineup of your favorite DJs including Afrojack, Armin van Buuren, Nicky Romero and Tiesto. Get your tickets here at their website.

If you’re not into electronic music, annual Jazz in the Gardens Festival will be on March 21-22, 2015 at Sun-Life Stadium, featuring tons of jazz-musicians. Read more here on their website.

  • Culture:

The City is Celebrating 100 Years of Miami Beach from March 22-26. 2015, and hosting a 100-hour celebration at South Beach for Miami Beach completing its 100 years featuring concerts, fashion and car shows. View all the details at their website!

Annual Miami International Film Festival will also be on from March 6-15, 2015, hosted by Miami Dade College. The festival introduces an array of big and small names amongst directors and actors every year, film premieres, and spotlights on international cinema like French and Asian. Not to mention after-parties with the best food and drinks. Tickets can be bought at their official website.

And while you’re at it, stay on till St. Patrick’s Day March 17, go to Irish pubs and join the beachy festivities.

  • Art Viewing:

Walk along Ocean Dr. in Miami Beach from south to north to see all the tiny art galleries and hidden art stores. Miami Art Deco District showcases tons for art-lovers. I especially love the pop-art (which you can find all over the city in installations, BTW), and those interesting psychedelic art-installations some artists make over there. Walk to Lincoln Road where you’ll find many art galleries. I recommend the Art Center that has artist studios open for viewing, and its experimental art includes wire, fabric, paints and stuff.

Lincoln Road was my favorite part on my trip to Miami!

  • Shopping:

While you’re at Lincoln Road, shop to your heart’s content for it has all major brands- Macy’s, Forever 21, BCBG, Pottery Barn, GAP, H&M, and what not. If you’re looking for local street stuff, check out stalls of sun-dresses, junk jewelry, hats and sandals at Ocean Dr. or near one of the annual festivals. For local designer wear, walk two blocks west from Ocean Dr. into Washington Ave, a beautiful and lively street with stores of local brands and couture.

  • Dining:

While you’re viewing the lovely art at Lincoln Rd, stop at one of the outdoor restaurants to try both local and touristy restaurants, whose menus have international offerings in all price ranges. Choose one with a local band or artist playing, and don’t forget to try the amazing Mexican food, Argentenian food, and of course, your favorite fish. For a sea-side dinner, walk back to Ocean Dr., where the semi-outdoor restaurants have bonfire and gourmet selections. Miami is big on cocktails, and I mean literally, plus they’re delicious and a must-try.

Trip to Miami: Style Ideas

Cut-out dresses and prints will be super in this spring-summer. And instead of maxi dresses, try straight-cut mid-calf lengths. Black and white is going to be a huge hit this season and amongst colors- try oranges, sea-blues and coral-reds. Show-off your ribs and shoulders by wearing dresses and swim-wear cut-out in the middle or sides, or one-shoulder, strapless and halter-necks.
