The Max Mara Fall Winter 2017 Ready-to-Wear fashion show started with red monochromatic looks with a mix of textures in fur, velvet and wool. The collection titled ‘Classic by Design’ was all about bringing back the 90s classic separates – loose trousers, sweaters, scarves and long buttonless coats and jackets.
“Nordic aesthetics meet utterly Italianate temperaments, giving light to a defined sense of purity in materials, form, finish and patterns in a collection of honest beauty and simple glamour,” mentioned the fashion show description. The theme seeped into the color palette, as the show moved on to beige, chocolate brown, cinnamon, grey and black.
Sweaters were seen a lot – turtleneck, plain and ribbed, paired with crop or flared trousers and fur-trimmed bags. Matching pointy toe pumps, belts and cat-eye sunglasses were the other accessories. Other silhouettes included cape coats, velvet, shearling-collared and fur-collared coats, pinstriped pant-suits, pencil skirts and a hoodie.
The show progressed to include metallic shades – a pale gold suit, pants. The pale gold pencil skirt paired with turtleneck ribbed sleeveless sweater was one of my favorite looks in the collection.
An abaya and a jumpsuit were included too. The old-school coats and pants were matched with practical and easy to recreate yet chic makeup looks. Like a capsule collection, this one included all the essentials for a modern working woman in the timeless shades.
